On the heels of #Netflix announcing we can no longer cast to TVs from our phone apps, #Plex writes to remind me that soon the Plex app on #Roku will be as limited for remote streaming as the phone app, and to do it the server owner must pay for a #PlexPass. I mean, I already have one, for life, but goddamn, they're really taking it all away and selling it back to us.
Anybody remember when Plex was just XBox Media Center ( #xbmc )? How soon until #Jellyfin suffers the same fate?

Did you know #Boxee ? It was an #XBMC clone for Mac that I used to run on my old white plastic MacBook back in the day and I loved it, that was when the software was in #alpha and tons of new features were being added every week it seemed.
Why am I talking about it now? Well, when ever I open up my work email via #Outlook online, I get to see this tiny thing, a single outline icon, that SCREAMS at me every time I see it.. The one on the left there. 1/2

The #kodi #Android remote is very well done. I'm always so annoyed when I use the #Roku or #Amazon #FireTV remote apps, but the kodi one is much more intuitive, especially with the volume control through the phone's volume buttons and being able to navigate the media library from within the app itself.
Whoever did the #xbmc/ #kodi remote, pat yourself on the back for a very well executed UI/UX!

How big is your library?
I've been using Kodi on Raspberry Pis for almost 12 years! I cut the cord in 2012. No Plex, no Emby, no Jellyfin - just plain simple Kodi.
I have a really large library (20TB) that requires a NAS (Unraid) from which all my Kodi boxes pull content.
I have started replacing my Raspberry Pis with Mini PCs - specifically this:

I have quite a collection of 5.1 FLAC files, and some .dts and .ac3, of music albums recorded in #surroundSound. I used to be able to play these out to my amplifier with discrete 6-channel inputs from an Xbox with #XBMC, and later over HDMI from a raspi running # raspbmc
Nowadays I have Samsung Atmos soundbar and an #NvidiaShield Pro. What software can I use to play these files back now?
(a boost would be appreciated if you can’t answer yourself)

#OpenELEC gehört nicht automatisch in die selbe Kiste wie #LibreELEC #XBMC oder #Kodi. ...Es kann auch "Open E-Learning-Center Niedersachsen" heißen. Aber auch dort versteht man unter "#Tablets" ausschließlich Geräte eines einzigen Herstellers, den ich zudem mit dem Begriff "Open" nicht unbedingt in Verbindung bringe. ...

@meansofescape @ZombieCrew @blackbatflower @Mila_no_toot I’ve had #Plex lifetime since it was only really a clone of #XBMC with a phone app that worked in coordination.
The lifetime sub was well worth it then, even if it is twice as much now, if you back up your movies on a hard drive by any means, it’s well worth the cost.
Now you can even host streaming events with friends.
