#xban — Public Fediverse posts

I think a UK-wide ban of X would be a net positive for society. I’m not generally in favour of banning things, and I’m aware there are communities of people who would suffer as a result.

I’m fairly sure it won’t happen though. X will make some token concession and people will be able to continue to use X to generate illegal and degrading images, or get exposed to some of the worst in society.

Based on my observations here in Brazil, Bluesky is unlikely to become the political arena that Twitter once was. The political implications of the #XBan will prevent any single platform from accommodating both sides of the spectrum as Twitter once did. This presents an opportunity for the Fediverse to become the hub that connects the social web.

Brazilians are currently migrating themselves from X to bluesky and the fediverse. This includes the people the Brazilian government wants X to silence. Now the Brazilian government has silenced X but not the actual people they wanted silenced. Let's hope the USA and France government are watching this.
