Today. Recovering after a February #bushfire are these #grassTree (#Xanthorrhoea), Alligator Gorge, Mount Remarkable National Park.
Many other grass trees seen had put on leaf but died again, presumably because of the very dry conditions. -
Katydid on xanthorrhoea leaves
The very dense spray of long, thin leaves make for an interesting, if challenging location for macro. The katydid’s extravagant antennae aren’t quite as prominent as I’d hoped, but it’s a nice study in green, contrasted with silhouettes.

@BirgitMoldenhauer Yep, that’s a grass tree, or xanthorrhoea species.
They’re very pretty as they are, but the flower spike can be spectacular. I posted a couple of these recently so I’ll just add generic alt text. You can see the spike can reach 8 metres or more, and it grows very rapidly, however it’s quite solid wood, not fleshy. -
