The news that the Xteink X4 is officially getting discontinued and is now end-of-life makes me really glad that I bought one recently. I suspected that this might happen and partly made the decision to buy now instead of waiting a bit more.

I love 4x, but can I also fall in love with X4? Come by and see if I have the capacity to find my footing as I try to get hooked in another space and empire building simulator!

My X4 arrived and it is amazing! I installed CrossInk on it and used „Send to X4“ to put some of the Magic: The Gathering short stories on it that I want to catch up on.

Now that the X4 Pro was released (or is available for ordering) I took the opportunity (and the 15% sale) to order the X4 (in white) with a folio case (in forest green).
Bummer that you can’t apply multiple codes or I would have saved on shipping costs as well. But 15% is also pretty good.

NICE! #TIL: you can force Games like #X4 to utilize pulse/pipewire under linux (it's otherwise natively using OpenAL, which bypasses the pulse device mapping), by creating a magic config file that forces OpenAL itself to utilize pulse! Finally, X4 shows up in PavuControl and can be routed accordingly! 🎉

Now, that was fairly smooth and very quick. I only had to lift the required cmake-version to 3.5 in CmakeLists.txt to 3.5 and was good to go and compile.
And now I hav a linuxified Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard. Gnihihi... 😜
One of the best ever made - for very little money those days. This one and its brother served me well for like 15 years. And will do for some more time for sure.

The hardware is amazing, but they’ve put almost no effort into making the software even decent. The community really stepped up to fill that gap, and honestly, that’s been a huge part of the company’s success.
Things are still a bit unclear as it sounds like overseas products might not be affected, but either way, this feels like a dumb move.

Ich sitze mit dem #X4 im Zug und erfreue mich sehr daran.
Er ist gefühlt fixer als mein #Pocketbook Era. Dafür lässt sich aber auch weniger einstellen, die Schrift ist mir noch eine Spur zu groß.
Das Display ist genial und wird (natürlich) besser je heller es ist. Die Häppchen zu lesen machen es super einfach, Seite um Seite zu lesen.
Akku wurde geladen, der Stand wird mit 89% angegeben. -

I recently concluded that Crosspoint could benefit from a few more customizations and more font size options offered in Papyrix. It turns out that Inx might be the firmware to fill the gap. It also displays your current reading time, along with the number of pages and chapters—quite a nice feature!https://github.com/obijuankenobiii/inx
Still in pre-release, so very promising. I just didn't see an option to prevent the display fading effect when the X4 is exposed to U.V. It could be activated by default or not implemented.
