Years and years ago, I kept reading about how remarkable #Wyze cameras were. Their reliability. The onboard smart features.

Apparently something changed before I bought some, because features I'm *paying* for disable themselves daily, connections are spotty at best through the app, and being forced to cloud instead of local is idiotic.

I really regret the purchase. The Cam v4 at least has semi-local with an API key and TUKT, but the doorbell & flood? Nope.

A couple came to door convinced there was an open house. They had the wrong street and wrong house number. We have only the same exterior. Simple mistake or trying to case the place?

So is #Wyze a good ring cam?

Hmm, not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing my Wyze camera has a linux command line (with proper firmware loaded, wz_mini_hacks).

Hmm, I do not have great faith in Wyze data security, lol. It's arbitrarily decided I need app notifications every time a friend's shared cameras alert,even though I haven't asked for them. Time to get hustling on my own in house deployment of non cloud cameras. #wyze

While I’ve been away, my husband rigged up a camera next to where our male cat (Fattie) likes to sleep. I tuned in this morning and he was lying there but not sleeping. So I turned on the mic. He heard the click and greeted me. Sounds of home. ❤️

Today on my #homelab I finally managed to drop in the main and backup #pihole machines, two #wyze 3040. To do: #selfhosting nebula-sync. Though I don't see myself needing to sync configurations that often, honestly.

I've also had to once again tweak my rack placements for the back of the rack, where the switching and power delivery happens. Hopefully this is the last time I have to fiddle with that side of the rack so deeply, because it's a major pain (both figuratively and actually, thanks to my lower back pain...).

I've also gotten Debian running on a 2018 Mac Mini, which will also go in the rack as soon as I can get 15cm ethernet pigtails, because dear LORD they are a pain to make even with passthrough terminators...

Also ready to go in the rack is the W11 8th-gen NUC that will serve as the host for #winboat for the apps I might need.

Feeling like I've been trampled, so time for slowing down.

I have killed yet another Wyze camera.

Probably should buy a self hosted, non botnet/DDoS compromised camera instead. Maybe I should just build something with an Arduino or ESP32. (except weatherproofing DIY cameras is not easy)

I’m about to throw my #wyze robot vacuum out the fucking window.

Despite deleting the map multiple times, I still can’t customize rooms. The old existing map keeps appearing and telling me to map again.

So I DELETE the app, create a NEW Wyze account with a different email, and factory-reset the vacuum.

And the old DELETED map magically appeared again.

Well. Two older #Wyze bulbs and an older #Feit bulb failed to flash with #TuyaConvert. It said the firmware was too new.

I opened up the Feit bulb so far and I'm not sure I can attempt to solder a serial connector on because of how they have everything oriented in here. I guess I might just need to buy some new bulbs if I want them to work with #HomeAssistant .

@RenewedRebecca Many of the cloud enabled cameras also have local storage options for running w/o cloud features. I have a #Wyze camera that uses local storage. Some googling around it looks like there are a few others... #CYNC Indoor Cam, #Eufy Security Indoor Cam 2K, and #DLink DCS8300 Wi-Fi #Camera.
