  1. @jordywitteman super cool! I don’t have kids but I’m going to check this out anyways! The same idea has been rattling around in the back of my mind ever since Apple engineers used this exact idea in one of their labs for #wwdc24. Glad to see it come alive for real.

  5. Ok a really dumb question I couldn't find an answer so far: how can I provide the dark/tinted variant **alternative** app icons in my Info.plist file? #WWDC24

  6. This is an example. The red arrow points to a timer text currently at “09:05” with a scale factor of 0.4 applied even though the text can definitely be displayed at 1x scale (the red background shows its full size).

This used to work well-ish depending on the initial timer text when the widget is re-rendered. Now it's very broken on iOS 18..

  7. #WWDC24's What's new in SwiftUI mentioned "Text now has additional formats for the display of live times and dates that work great in widgets and live activities”.

Particularly, **can even adapt to the size of its container**.

Does anyone know what that means? To my experiment, these texts still want to consume the max width available even if the current text only consumes a portion of the width.

Worse, .minimumScaleFactor(0.4) seems to be unconditionally applied now.

  8. Wondering if #WWDC24 is worth the trip to Cupertino, even without a golden ticket? I asked @nico42 to share his thoughts—plus, don't miss the vibes from the @jamesdempsey & the Breakpoints concert! 🎶

  9. Has anyone figured out the data format for NSAdaptiveImageGlyph yet?

It looks like it might be the only way to pass images embedded in text to system views and have it be scaled appropriately. Which would allow Mastodon clients to finally include custom emoji in notifications…

Except they can only be initialized from Data, in some format Apple didn't document beyond “contains the image data, the unique identifier for the image, the image description, and additional metadata”

  10. Part 3 of @nico42's #WWDC24 experience is up on YouTube. ▶️

This time it’s the day of the days—see how he experienced the #Apple #Keynote! Still the closest thing to being actually there. ✈️
