It's day five of my #VidjaGameAwards2025 and I've lost interest so let's get down to it.

*Day 5: Game of the Year!*

Honourable Mentions: #Rematch, #Dispatch, #WuchangFallenFeathers and #HadesII. I love you all, and in another year maybe you'd be hoisting the much vaunted #VidjaGameAwards trophy, but alas it wasn't to be.

And now for our winner. My favourite game of 2025 is:

*Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*

To the surprise of absolutely no one.

I'm bored now so that's all I've got to say about it. Go play it if you somehow haven't decided if you want to or not yet.

Man, my personal GOTY is going to be a shit-show.

There are four games that I've played this year that all would have been my GOTY for 2024. And yet, only one can be victorious.

I thought it was done and dusted with #Expedition33, but the more I play #HadesII the more I think it may be one of the most complete videogames ever made.

And don't even get me started on #Dispatch. If the second half of that season is as good as the first I'm really going to have to question it's standing on this list.

And that's before I think about games like #DOOMTDA, #WuchangFallenFeathers and #RiftRiff.

Trying to figure out where #WuchangFallenFeathers fits into my 'Souls/like ranked list' and honestly, I think this one has top-five potential.

There's an argument to be made that I had more fun with it than I did with my 2023 GOTY in #LiesOfP.

Hmmmm....

Alright fine. Wuchang climbs into the top five, knocking out #Bloodborne.

I will say, in #Bloodborne's defence, I need to re-play it because I had a lot going on at the time and I'm not sure I appreciated it as much as I should.

So there we have it. I aint playing another one of these until 2026. I've done #DarkSouls3, #TheFirstBersekerKhazan and now #WuchangFallenFeathers in 2025, and honestly, I'm exhausted.

For a game that I bounced off on two different attempts, I think this may go down as one of my favourite new games of the year, and it's definitely my favourite Soulslike of the year (Sorry Khazan).

I hope they make more games like this.

A trend I've noticed with the bosses in #WuchangFallenFeathers is that whilst they're not all that difficult from a moveset perspective, they all seem to have one go-to move that will just one-shot you without fail.

I'm fighting Fierce Tiger right now and I know I've got the bastard...but he'll always connect with one of his head lunges and it ends me immediately.

No chance to reset. No chance to heal. Just dead.

I'm going to have to watch a YouTube video on this game because I can't shake the feeling that I'm missing out on some things.

The levelling up system doesn't seem to make much sense to me and I've got to assume it's because I'm missing a fundamental bit of information.

Same with the Swift Draw/Weapon Skill system.

All in all though, I'm having a blast.

One of the things that differentiates #WuchangFallenFeathers from the zillions of other Soulslikes is it's unique take on the upgrade process.

And I don't think I like it. It's not bad, but I kinda don't love it.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but if this holds true for the rest of the game, I wouldn't be surprised to see #WuchangFallenFeathers break into my top five Soulslike list.

I bounced off this fucking thing like three times and then decided it wasn't for me...and yet it persisted in my mind, like a fucking parasite.

I went back to it the other day and I'm absolutely loving it. I'm not sure what changed, other than I was in a slightly more ... willing spot to meet the game half way.

Now I fully expect this thing to feature in my end-of-year-GOTY list.

Hmmm.

It appears I'm rather enjoying #WuchangFallenFeathers. This only furthers my theory that I'm a 'time and place' kind of gamer.

I tried this thing on three different occasions, across three different weeks and I bounced off it immediately three times. And yet, on attempt four, it appears to have stuck.

If my head isn't in the right place, it doesn't matter how good your game is, I just won't be able to give myself to it.

So I think #WuchangFallenFeathers got it's erm...talons in me. I spent a solid 3 hours on it last night and progressed further than I had before, and spent a little time figuring out where I went wrong before.

Can't play again tonight but I am looking forward to going back to it, which is something.

I want to give #WuchangFallenFeathers another look but it's like...when?

#GearsOfWarReloaded and #Helldivers2 are both out at the end of the month (HD on Xbox) and me and my brothers are planning on playing both games together to give us a break from the disaster that our Rocket League sessions have become.

If it wasn't for these pesky kids I'd have nothing but time! Nothing!
