The White Paper on the "Wide-field Spectroscopic Telescope (WST)" appeared on arXiv today: https://arxiv.org/abs/2403.05398
This is a planned new 12m telescope equipped with multi-object spectroscopy over 3.1 deg² and a giant integral field spectrograph with 9 arcmin² (a "super MUSE"). The document lists all the science that will be possible with the #WST. -

Quite disappointing that "Mr. WST" (Barry Hearn) is not saying a single word about the message 'stop oil' and the climate crisis. He does what most people do: He criticizes the method and leaves it by this. In his case he will urge a civil cause, because of the expenses of 400 hundred people whom Hearn calls "my people".
What did #WST ever for fighting climate change? -
Don’t get me wrong: Ding in the top 16? Couldn’t be happier, especially because he really improved a lot, he’s playing aggressively, doesn’t shy away from difficult pots, even if he loses frames when he misses. But. He reached the final of the UK Champs, but apart from that only made the last 16 twice. How on earth did he make it back into the top 16?! #snooker #wst #rankings

I love watching Shaun Murphy play #snooker.There are two players. One can't play for shite (relatively speaking, obv) and doesn't understand why. The other is a nonchalant showboating genius that is pure bliss to watch.
Sometimes, the former starts a match but the latter finishes it and it's a joy to watch.
He's kinda the Andy Murray of snooker. Manages to make a proper drama out of a match.
