  1. A year later, and I finally cleaned the files, code, and history. *matrix* is officially done \o/.

  2. Testing something else (reusing the small matrix I made as proof of concept for the bigger one).
    It's nothing original, but it looks nice. ;)

    And it will probably be better with thinner acrylic sheet and better led placement.
    I guess I have to make a pcb and order some 2mm acrylic sheets :)

  3. Finally found some time to bring my #NeoPixel Heart PCBs into a usable state and add some documentation. The #sourcecode is hosted on @Codeberg at codeberg.org/rommudoh/NoisyMcH and works for both variants (big and small).
    I think I'll publish the #KiCad files soon, too.
    Thanks to #platformio I can use the same code for both hardware variants.

  6. Inspired by my last #WS2812B #PCB, I decided to do a smaller version and try to add a USB C connector. I'm very pleased how it turned out. The LEDs are not as close to each other as last time, but I still used my hot plate to solder them. And hot air for the back side.

  8. Here are the boards! I soldered a first one by hand, but the #WS2812B #LEDs are very close to each other. So some have burn marks. Hot air is no option, it would burn them up. So, I bought a hot plate and tried again. It's so much faster and easier! And it worked directly after #soldering.
    I only need better solder paste, this one was difficult to clean.

  9. Since it'll take some time for the PCBs to arrive, I decided to make a #prototype on #perfboard. It works fine, and I can test my programs using it. Turns out an #ATtiny814 is good enough for the task.
    The #WS2812B #SMD #LEDs are very bright, though, and reducing brightness also reduces the possible color range.
    The different color shadings are not very distinguishable, yet. I might have to adjust the color palette.

  13. Avete presente quelle tv nei supermercati che dietro hanno i led che illuminano la parete in base all'immagine? Ecco, ho trovato il modo per ricreare lo stesso effetto.
    Il tutto funziona con un #ESP32 con sopra installato #WLED e una striscia #led #WS2812b e un semplice programma multipiattaforma chiamato Hyperion che si occupa di catturare l'immagine a schermo e trasferirla a WLED. Trovate le guide per entrambi ovunque nel web

    Близится Новый год, а гирлянда на ёлку не готова. В комоде уложена старая, её использовали уже пять раз и хочется чего-то нового. Предлагаю сделать свою, на популярной плате STM32 BluePIll в связке с адресными светодиодами. Это история с открытым концом. Если читателю идея покажется интересной, будет прошивка на git с реализацией интересных задумок; в противном случае, придётся купить готовую на маркетплейсе. Но мы же этого не допустим? Предложить идею

    Make sure your power source is constant, which means use a uninterruptible power supply, UPS, at least while you are flashing!

    New setups should use the ESP32 not the dated ESP8266 because that micro controller reaches end of life / end of support soon. The ESP32 also has Bluetooth which The ESP8266 lacks.

    And I like it :)
    Definitely needs a 61 columns to get a symmetry.

    But with today's heat that's not an option, so I'm back working on clocks :)

  31. Does anyone know if I can skip an LED on the data line of a #WS2812b strip?
    So I have

    [L]--[L]--[L]-
    Due to complications, I can't directly add another bit on to the last LED's data pin.
    So, I figured I'd do
    [L]--[L]-|-[L]-
    -----------|-[L]--[L]--[L]-
    But I wonder if that makes the last LED of the "old" strip and the first led of the "new" strip collide, or make one dysfunctional

  33. I had some free time this sunday to solder the last two board I had, but not enough to test them.
    So I did it this evening.
    1 led in the wrong direction (on 1296 hand placed leds), and 2 with bad connections. All fix, and the board are running fine now \o/

    I have no idea of what I'm gonna do with them. But I'll find out :)
