  1. Could anybody use a pick-me-up?

Golden Age Karate is one of the most uplifting films in our collection. It's about Jeff Wall Jr., a real-life teenage hero, who uses his natural talent for martial arts to help people. It's super sweet and soul-feeding.

It's just five minutes long and you can watch it for free!

We also offer a mini-discussion guide for educators who'd like to use it as a classroom warm-up or creative writing prompt.

Check it out in our library to get free streaming links plus the free discussion guide. 1/2

  3. I wasn't able to write during the holidays as my body didn't adjust to the Philippine time. And there were family-related things I fortunately sorted. So in order to kick off my #PhD writing, here is my first blog entry on #MissUniverse and #pageantry.

  4. I've been thinking a lot about Tone. It's a crucial early decision. Understand the tone you want to set and how to evoke it.

Four versions of the same landscape photo with a different mood applied by photo filtering. Left to right, memoir, horror, fantasy, romance. But that's my take.

  5. Some more writing - again, nothing polished, an off-the-cuff exercise. This goes in the metaphorical drawer now, if I come back to it later and think it passes muster, there'll be some tweaking and polishing.

  6. Not been #writing much lately. The things I've been up have required more technical stuff - editing, coding. I'm getting a bit out of that so I'm trying to write more, let a thought pop in and chase it down. Here's something fresh out of the oven. Hope you all have a good one today, ta.

  7. Are people interested in writing exercises here? I ran one about places and height/depth this weekend, thought I'd share it.

First we read and chatted about The Man-Moth by Elizabeth Bishop, which you can find here (it is too long for screenshots but it is a banger): poetryfoundation.org/poems/475

We talked about it particularly in the context of a quote from Gaston Bachelard which I will stick in the next toot
