Thanks to everyone for the recommendations here!

We ended up working with @mastohost to drastically reduce our database storage, which brought costs down a ton (almost $200/mo).

Now we're looking at more options, like removing old remote content that hasn't been interacted with, to further reduce storage. But at least for now, we're back in a sustainable place here on #WritingExchange 🙌

Can anyone recommend some relatively affordable managed #Mastodon hosting?

We've been with the absolutely fantastic Masto.host since starting Writing.Exchange in 2017, but it's become prohibitively expensive -- especially for a community of only ~250 active users, as our hosting costs are about to increase another $50 to $589/month this month.

We've officially hit our plan limit again here on Writing.Exchange, so on Friday this week, we're going to adjust our settings to only retain remote content from within the last 7 years (after Dec. 2018).

For everyone who's been around for that long, this means you'll lose older *remote* content (not your own posts), such as bookmarks and favorites.

I know a neurodivergent children's author who needs help with her query letter and the process! She is happy to pay for the service.

Added a second instance of #writefreely to my server, under a different domain name

After setting up #LetsEncrypt & testing, ONLY THEN try to #follow it from mastodon - here on #writingExchange. It works fine.
But I still can't follow my 1st instance from writingExchange, tho it works ok from other masto instances.
=> something screwy in database owned by writingExchange - I'll just abandon my 1st writefreely, I suppose. No worries.

Ok, I feel better about my essay now. I made a few more changes. I stuck the landing a little better. I kept in mind some things said in the Roxane Gay youtube (see earlier post). I am going to do this. Mastodon, you're my writing confessor. Also, my ice cream temptation confessor.
