Ok, I can’t seem to land on what I want for my writer deck, but this seems to tick all the boxes. The Thinkpad is just too chunky to be easily portable, so I needed something small, light, no distractions, simple and an unbloated OS.
This little 10inch ultra portable netbook seems to fit the bill. And for the princely sum of £35 it is now mine. Might need to buy a new battery for it at some stage but it’s not a great deal of money to take a punt on. #WriterDeck #NetBook

Are Psions used by people for focused writing sessions? F*ck yes, it's one of their best capabilities given the best-in-class keyboard of this size. I've been writing a book and spent over 65 hours writing on mine. It looks like a write deck, it works like a writerdeck, it's a writerdeck.

There is no "yes" because you asked an impossible question. It's a Turing complete device, it can run any software, like any other Turing complete device. There is no such thing as a device that can "ONLY" support writing, that's not how computers work. It's a choice made by the user, not the device. An MS-DOS laptop is not a writerdeck by your definition, a Pomera isn't a writerdeck by your definition.
So to answer your question, Yes, it is used for and does what it is you're thinking but you aren't considering how deep that rabbit hole goes.

I always wanted to use a #Psion for real, meaningful work — even started writing a book on it ( #worldglass ) — but today I use it to write my statement to a judge to be read in a court of law to determine the future of my disabled child. It does not get more real and meaningful than this.

Selv om litt av *poenget* er at det bør være noe kjedelig, enkelt og distraksjonsfritt.

Yes, turning old machines into a #writerdeck is good; using claude however makes me think you know full well about the code theft and crimes against humanity but didn't care because YT demands that sweet, sweet content, and that's not a mindset I support regardless of content. Another retro tech person that's Dead To Me.

The build script for writerdeckOS v2.0 can be found here: https://github.com/tinkersec/writerdeckOS
While I am no longer supporting this project (I can't address bug issues or help with installation any longer), folks are welcome to use the code as is or fork it and run with the project.
If anyone wants to build out version 2.0 and create installation media for it, they are welcome to do so.
Cheers. It was fun working on this project and I deeply deeply deeply regret having to drop it. I just hit a wall with trying to get a better installation media and I don't have time to actively work on this project and keep up my other food projects.

And here’s that exact same code running on the device. It’s nothing to look at, it is a minimal viable text-editor so far, but the fact that it _can_ be changed is what matters. There hasn’t been an open-source plain text editor for this platform, ever.

This thing is so dumb. I love it.
Wrote my latest blog post on it and did the html wrangling and ssh-ery necessary to get it online.
I've done a bit of writing with it on breaks at work this week as well. Definitely nicer to use than my phone with a Bluetooth keyboard, which is how I've been doing things while away from home up to this point.
Screen's too small for distractions. Trackball is too bad to make web browsing anything other than a chore. It can still do everything if necessary but it's only *good* for editing text (inc. code), so I can be quite productive in short bursts and then just throw it in my bag. Get my laptop out for a bit once the little guy is in bed.

I'm waiting on the electronic parts from AliExpress, but I finished 3D printing the case for a Micro Journal 5.1 #writerdeck. Like the BYOK it's meant to go with a USB or Bluetooth keyboard, but it runs on an ESP32 board and has this nifty clamshell case.

Randomly remembered that in the early 2000s my dad gave me a Compaq C120 palmtop out of the blue. It ran Windows CE and transferring files was annoying, but I used it a ton for writing (and also solitaire). #writerdeck

Not to be confused with a #cyberdeck, which is a general-purpose device; the delineating factor that separates a notebook from a dumbbook being a fully-featured web browser. If it runs Chrome, it *cannot* be classed as a dumbbook.
