  1. I've had a jawbreaker jack for ages but I don't off-road so I've got no jack points for it. It's just my winch, post-puller, and pretty great for the riding mower. Definitely one my favorite, albeit dangerous, #tools.

Harbor Freight put their Badland jack on sale for ITC members starting today. Still a heap of dosh but I've watched enough reviews to know I'll be at their door this morning. Anything to make #wrenching on the truck, on the lawn, a little easier. Rear drums are coming up next.

  2. LubeLogger has been a great addition to the #homelab so far. I went ahead and back dated all the recent parts and fluid purchases into the system, entered the dates of the work performed, recent refueling, etc. It's nice to have an ongoing log, and to have all recurring services scheduled in it. As long as I'm mindful to keep the odometer reading updated, or sufficient time has passed, it'll let me know what's coming up.

  3. Truck is 99.9% done. I'd been waiting for the freezing temps to pass to start flushing it out. Block drains are seized so I can't drain as much coolant as I'd like to at once, but I've just gotten 2.75 gallons of distilled water into it. I estimate means about .5 to .75 gallons of coolant still in the block. Probably take a few flushes before it runs clear.

Better still, I'm way below quotes I've seen for the job and I've loads of tools to show off for the savings.

  4. Wrench day on the friends VW. End links, lower arms, and tie rod ends (she rattles!). Started with the end links... driver side, just a few minutes. Pax side ... hours :S

  5. Little bit of #wrenching in the driveway this morning. Friend was by, swapping a broken rear spring. Mk.7 #VW.

  7. Been a little while with no progress, but my friend came over yesterday and helped me drop the engine out. 5 bolts and the entire block drops then slides out sideways! Far lighter than we expected, too.

Got the bottom end dismantled and sadly it seems like the problem isn't what we thought it was, although we did find another suspect shaft collar under 1st gear plus the bearing next to it, both of which will be getting replaced just in case.

  8. Brakes on one corner running a bit hot. Considering new calipers, pulled the parking brake cables.. but all three seem just fine.

Unfortunately, one side has quite a bit of play in the parking brake shaft and the other has been leaking brake fluid into the adjuster area.

Guess next spring, will probably try my hand and rebuilding these myself. Until then, adjusted and put back together.

Good chance to deep clean the wheels while they were off.

  9. Bit of #sun today, though remained windy and cool ( -3C ). Took the opportunity to change the forward lower control arms in the Kia, as one had a toasted ball joint.

Drives noticeably better now, though there is still a mystery noise to sort. Maybe a window bushing? I dunno.

  10. Looks like the missus's Pilot has an exhaust leak. Well, sounds like it does might be a more apt phrase.

I was really hoping all the noise was from the heat shield, which was split; but alas, got it out - but that was only a source of 'a lot of noise'.

Nothing is loose, I can't quite get in there to tell, but I really hope this is a gasket and not a bad cat. That sucker is expensive.

No time to driveway this, off to the muffler shop :(

  11. Twenty minutes after midnight and I'm back in the #garage after test driving the #Miata with it's new 1.25" front sway bar and reinforcing blocks.

    I like it!

Kinda darty - channeling the 0 degrees of front and rear toe much more than the marshmallow stock setup.

We'll see how #Autocross goes tomorrow. I'm hoping both me and my son move up a position or two in #STR class.

Heading to the shower. Gotta get up in 5.5 hours. πŸ™ƒ

  12. Solid morning #wrenching, little impromptu brake workshop in the driveway with a pair of matching Hyundai's.

Later the week, have another brake job to do on the in-law's car, so will be at it again soon.

Actually, I did very little aside provide some tools and consumables and a little bit of advice which is really great. Partially as it is a great skill set to share in Nfld, but also as it does a number on my #arthritis to be at it :)

  13. Finished the heat shield repair, going to let it sit overnight then do the heat cycle/curing tomorrow morning.

It was, as most are, cracked around the mounting bolts. I cleaned it up, opened it up a bit, then filled the cracks with exhaust gasket maker and washers. Painted flat black with header paint, and some new shiney hardware while it was out.

The worst possible spot in the Cobra, tightening exhaust pipe so it’s no longer rattles

  16. Current #projects on the brain: #gardening, #archery (new!), and #wrenching on my car.

I've had zero motivation to code or do any writing lately.

I beginning to think that my #hobbies are seasonal.
