  1. Ghost ship

The remains of a 17th-century Swedish navy shipwreck have resurfaced in #Stockholm. The wreck, hidden under water for hundreds of years, has been visible above the surface since early February due to unusually low Baltic Sea levels.

  2. Underwater biking

Fish swim around the underwater remains of the British cargo ship SS Thistlegorm, which was sunk by German aircraft in 1941 after being deployed to transport military supplies from England to Egypt during the second world war. The wreck, which is near Sharm El-Sheikh, is one of the Red Sea’s most popular diving spots, with armoured vehicles, torpedoes, Jeeps, rifles and Norton motorcycles on view.

  5. The #ExeEstuary has a few #wrecks in it. I presume they are #NavigationHazards but I guess it would prove too expensive to clear the #waterway. Perhaps they provide a #habitat for #MarineLife. Here you can see #Birds (I can’t tell whether they are #Cormorants of #Shags).

  6. CW: 2023 Art in Review; mostly NSFW content; some eye contact

It's time for the annual art roundup. Here's my favorites for each month throughout 2023. It feels like this was the year of lighting and rendering, for the most part. I developed both more realistic lighting as well as cartoony renderings, this year showing a variety of styles and detail.

Things especially changed in May, after some assistance from Smagma on the Goliath picture. And then I found my linework getting chunky, which made for a fun contrast with the more realistic lighting, as well as making my less-realistic lighting pop out more.

As for commissions, there were fewer of them than there were in 2022, but I blame the **gestures vaguely** for that. It was a rough year for us all, so I understand that getting commissions wasn't exactly foremost in most folks' minds.

Here's to a better 2024, in spite of continued bullshit for us!

"Brilliantly colored #corals and #sponges blanket the #wrecks’ surfaces. Silvery schools of #baitfish dart, shimmer around the structures, chased by sleek #predators. #Sharks sometimes cruise around wrecks, likely resting or looking for prey."

  13. Good morning and Happy Tuesday all! Thornham Old Harbour in #Norfollk is another favourite haunt of mine. The #Coalbarn is loved by #photographers I particularly like old #boat #wrecks and this one sadly was damaged in a storm and removed soon after I took this #photo from the #marsh

  14. In this morning’s post: #Dorset Natural History & Archaeological Society Magazine, no. 5 (winter 2022) - including an article on the 13th century #MortarWreck discovered in #StudlandBay #Dorset. The #clinker-built #ship was constructed from Irish timber (felled 1242-1262) and was carrying #Purbeck #GraveSlabs, building rubble, and mortars, as well as the what appears to be the crew’s cooking pots. #MaritimeHistory #Wrecks #MedievalShips #MaritimeTrade #DNHAS
