Clearly No Adult In Charge Of WordPress
WP Engine, who is in a prolonged legal battled with WordPress.org and Automattic over trademark and other legal matters bought a plug-in today. Congrats to them.
But then in response to this the WordPress.org X/Twitter account called WPE a parasite.
This was obviously Matt Mullenweg misusing his control over the non-profit/open source WordPress project to throw arrows and just be a total clown.
I’m not going to mince words here. The leadership (ahem Matt Mullenweg) is not right in the head. And he’s taking the WordPress project down with him. Which is a real shame, because the WordPress community on the whole is fantastic. But to outsiders they just see Matt acting erratic and, well, small.
Clearly there are no adults in the decision room at WP HQ. Where is Mary Hubbard the Executive Director of the WordPress project in all this? You know where? No where!
Something needs to be done. But nothing probably will.
This is just depressing. Full stop.

“U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin, a Joe Biden appointee, denied Automattic and Mullenweg’s bid to strike or dismiss claims including defamation, trade libel, unjust enrichment and intentional interference with contractual and economic relations claims. She partly granted dismissal of antitrust and one Computer Fraud and Abuse Act claim, both with leave to amend.”

I am not a lawyer or time traveler, but from Matt’s odd statements, it appears that #WPEngine may actually win their lawsuit against #Automattic.
Matt on the other hand is “cutting off his nose to spite his face” with these measures, which is baffling honestly.

For example, it would appear most/all #WordPress site RSS feeds hosted on #WPEngine are recently inaccessible to a simple PHP script or curl command; I get 403 even when rotating network locations and providing a reasonable-looking user agent.
