I've been away from the #WordPress ecosystem long enough that I sometimes forget about #WPDrama, and things are better for it.

I mean, they suck in different ways, but at least it's not the same bullshit every week.

Matt Mullenweg Has Lost His Way And Is Taking It Out On The Community. The Latest…

Roger Montti over at Search Engine Journal reported that the latest in the WordPress Drama had dropped. Matt Mullenweg, the “leader” of the WordPress project has barred longtime supporter of the project Joost De Valk from speaking at WordCamp Asia, because Matt feels Joost stabbed him in the back.

Matt Mullenweg, co-creator of WordPress, posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) announcing that Joost de Valk was no longer speaking at WordCamp Asia and was persona non grata for having “stabbed” him when he was vulnerable and betraying his confidence. Mullenweg cited statements by de Valk to prove his point, but those statements were presented without their full context, which significantly altered their meaning.

Matt is seriously unhinged. And what’s scary is that WordPress is suffering because of this insanity. WordPress powers ~40% of the Websites on the Web. There is a lot at stake here if Matt goes nuclear.

He brought this on himself. And now Matt is paying the price for his actions. But sadly he’s taking the whole fucking community down with him.

There are efforts to make sure this doesn’t happen, or hopefully doesn’t. But it has a lot of us on edge, me included.

Seriously, this is one more thing that many of us don’t need right now.

Podcast adventure

Stats are clear: our fantasy stories have very few readers so we are going to transform them into podcast to let more people enjoy them.

Positive World won’t end here, but we’re building an audio-drama called @famigliatradizionale – “traditional family”, in English -, where we bring our characters to life with the same purpose: demolishing HIV stigma and prejudices, with satire.

Too bad we just have Italian language audio for now, but being amateur and independent bloggers we can’t do all what we want.

Our site won’t die, we are considering a platform change if #wpdrama becomes more serious, but we want to grow in different way as audio and sound effects are becoming more exciting for us.

Our podcast, unfortunately in Italian only is based on @Castopod platform, installed on our same server where we host this blog so we’re completely independent from external platform with their own rules.

We would like to provide English audio too, but at the moment it’s not affordable for us.

However, a special thanks is addressed to Gianluca @futuroprossimo as he strongly inspired us without even knowing it.

But even if WPE drops the lawsuit, something is broken. I feel a vague lack of confidence in the future of »WordPress as we knew it«.

This is largely due to MM's erratic behavior towards the WP community. It's like he dropped his mask, and now I can't un-see what I saw.

The 200th Gutenberg release just came out, and I was looking forward to the new FSE stuff presented by Matias Ventura in Tokyo.

But now AutoMATTic announced a 99% cutback in development hours:

Bueno, aunque parece que el año 2024 he tenido mas actividad que el año 2023, esta vez no me ha llegado la revisión del año, como sucedió la ultima vez. Y no quiero esperar mas a que llegue porque quiero publicar mas que antes, a ver cuanto logro superarme este año.

Este blog es el que mas he trabajado pues ademas de ser la cara principal de mis proyectos, también es donde hago pruebas y experimentos. Aun así, las decisiones de proyectos resultan mas sencillas aquí pues a diferencia de Recogiendo Frutos, no tengo que pensar en áreas para miembros y me interesa que la mayoría de los contenidos aquí expuestos sean públicos.

2024 ha sido un año complicado en muchos sentidos y también lleno de cambios. Le di una oportunidad a los temas de bloques de WordPress usando BlogMag, con lo que la velocidad de mi sitio aumento bastante y conseguí la unificación estética de mis blogs y estuve experimentando configuraciones de seguridad en mis servidores, como aplicar http3 con Apache, aunque por razones de travesuras, he quedado solo en http2 con Nginx.

WordPress ha sido una herramienta magnifica para aprender sobre el mundo del Blogging y he probado también algunas formas nuevas de aumentar el alcance de mi blog con plataformas como @bloguers_net y resultando en ser la cuarta fuerza de trafico en mi blog.

La muerte de Taringa, la que fue bastante triste, pero aun se mantuvo en sexto lugar a pesar de haber cerrado, siendo reemplazada en quinto lugar por peluchan.net, la cual se propone como una de las muchas alternativas que surgieron para ocupar su nicho.

Este 2024 también aprendí a usar la Rest API de WordPress, con el nacimiento de mi bot interlanbot, que me permite incluso subir imágenes a los dos blogs que tengo registrado desde Telegram, ademas de poder buscar y compartir post creados. Tal vez este año agregue nuevas funciones útiles.

• 85.536 intentos de ataque de fuerza bruta bloqueados por Jetpack en 2023. El 2024 no he recibido este informe
• 27 Entradas en el 2023. En el 2024 solo tengo 23. Pensé que había publicado mas.
• 3 Me gusta en el 2023. En el 2024 he recibido 22 me gusta. Esto si ha resultado muy bien
• Paices Populares 2024: España ,Ecuador y Estados Unidos. ¿Eh? ¿gringos?
• Fuente de trafico: bloguers.net. Le hace falta una entrada en la wiki, pero es una iniciativa interesante: Agregador y comunidad de creadores de contenido. Promociona gratis tus publicaciones y gana visitas para tu blog, podcast o canal de YouTube.
• Palabras en el 2023 17,2 mil. En el 2024 escribí 19,6 mil es un incremento importante a pesar de haber escrito menos post.
• Articulo mas visitado en el 2024: Tutorial: Solución para problemas de actualización en NextCloud Heeey, parece que no soy el único que tuvo que sufrir con esto jajaja

Conclusiones

Esta vez no hay un enlace al resumen, porque Jetpack no me lo dio, pero al menos aun guardan mis estadísticas.

Debido al #wpdrama, he estado pensando en migrar de wordpress a otra plataforma, pero la verdad, es mucho esfuerzo y pocas garantías. Lo que hago aquí no lo veo posible en otras plataformas. Tampoco es que gane algo con esta plataforma, pero este año planeo explorar algunas opciones de monetización para poder tener mas libertad de estudiar y aprender nuevas cosas.

Este año también me gustaría aprender Astro, pero sigo sin tener una excusa para hacerlo. Pensé en migrar mi blog a Astro, pero es mucho esfuerzo y no parece valer la pena.
