  3. @steve

It's good to hear of another high profile break away from #WoS and #Scopus. More power to #OpenResearch and open databases.

  4. Update. The French 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 (#CNRS) is canceling the #WebOfScience and encouraging its affiliates to use #OpenAlex. It canceled #Scopus last year.

  6. 📢 #Scientometric indicators in #research evaluation and research #misconduct: analysis of the Russian #university excellence initiative

👉 "The results showed that #RUEI #universities had a significantly higher number of retracted #publications in #WoS - and #Scopus -indexed #journals, suggesting that pressure to meet quantitative scientometric #indicators may have encouraged unethical research practices and #researchmisconduct."

  7. Update. "#OpenAlex exhibits a far more balanced linguistic coverage than #WoS. However, language metadata is not always accurate, which leads OpenAlex to overestimate the place of English while underestimating that of other languages."

  9. Update. More on the incompleteness of #WOS and #Scopus in covering #African journals, and the comparative comprehensiveness of #OpenAlex (@OpenAlex).

  10. New study: "Non-selective databases (#Dimensions, #OpenAlex, #Scilit, and #TheLens) index a greater amount of retracted literature than do databases that rely their indexation on venue selection (#PubMed, #Scopus, and #WoS)…The high coverage of OpenAlex and Scilit could be explained by the inaccurate labeling of retracted documents in #Scopus, Dimensions, and The Lens."

  11. Navigating bibliometric data extraction from WOS and Scopus can be tricky. In my latest post, I provide a step-by-step guide to help you efficiently gather and format the data for your research using the bibliometrix package in R.

  12. Update. More data on the #WOS bias toward the #oligopoly of large publishers, and the absence of that bias in more inclusive indices like #OpenAlex (@OpenAlex) and #Dimensions.

  13. @emmecola
The area of commercial publishers and rannkings is making itself redundant. I had a look at the #ranking of Journals in my area in #WoS (Web of Science, formerly #ISI) since this subject came up in a meeting. Turns out that the journal our community considers of the least quality (among them where we do publish) has risen to the top position, and one of the two top journals appears in Q2, second quartile. A couple of years ago, this was different. Quantity rules. #elsevier

  16. CNRS has unsubscribed from Scopus publications database cnrs.fr/en/cnrsinfo/cnrs-has-u

"Unsubscribing from #Scopus bibliographic database is first stage of process of freeing #CNRS from commercial databases and gradually switching to free bibliographic tools"

"#WOS subscription will be maintained during this transition"

"CNRS's decision is in line with international vision underpinning announcement by @cwts that it is launching transparent reproducible version of its world ranking of universities"

  17. #Sorbonne University has decided to discontinue its subscription to the #WebofScience (#WoS) database and Clarivate's bibliometric tools in 2024. Furthermore, Sorbonne University has decided to redirect its efforts towards the exploration of open, free & participative tools. This decision is in line with their policy of #openness, and it is now working to consolidate a sustainable, international alternative, in particular by using #OpenAlex.

  19. The unpleasant thing about this whole story doi.org/10.1007/s11192-023-048 is that so many journal editors, reviewers, and Ko didn’t care why physicists, material scientists, or economists suddenly cited an article about insects.

    Also, a big hello 👋 to the content selection experts at #Scopus - 1278 citations, and #WoS - 1051.

  20. Vom 14. bis 17. September findet das #WOS Festival im spanischen Santiago de Compostela statt.

  21. Current Status of Open Access Journals in India: A Bird's Eye View

👉 "The yearly growth of #openaccess journals in India was found to be 22.36%. Among these 306 #OA journals, about 44.11% of #journals are indexed in #Scopus, 34.96% of journals are indexed in #WebofScience(#WoS), and 7.18% of journals with impact factor (#IF) are indexed in #JCR. Almost 74% of open access journals published in #India do not charge Article Processing Charges (#APC)."

  22. In this research letter 📮 , we draw the attention of the #scientometrics community to the fact that numerous records of non-English publications in the #Scopus and #WoS do not include information about the country of the authors:

    :doi: doi.org/10.1007/s11192-023-046

These limitations of #citation databases must be taken into account when conducting #bibliometric analysis, especially when comparing the outputs in #SSH at the level of countries.

  23. Our new publication in #Scientometrics:

    👉 link.springer.com/article/10.1

During the #bibliometric analysis, we noticed that numerous records for non-English publications in #Scopus and #WoS don't include information about the country of the authors. We suspected that most of these country-undefined papers are written by authors from a country where the language of the paper is official. Thus, the incompleteness of #metadata may distort the quantitative comparison of output at the country level ⚠️
