On 28 December 1879, a tragic accident occurred when the Tay Bridge in Scotland collapsed during a storm while a train was crossing it, resulting in the death of all 75 passengers and three crew. A new bridge was built in 1887.
‘The Tay Bridge Disaster’ (1880), is a poem (see image below) written by the Scottish poet William McGonagall, who has been recognised as the worst poet in history.
