TIL on @wikipedia about the Black Tom explosion OTD in 1916 targeting munitions to be sent to the Allies during #WorldWar I.
It was one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in #history. At least 7 people were killed and damages to the harbour in #NewYorkCity were so extensive that the Statue of #Liberty was damaged! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Tom_explosion
Two spies for #Germany were imprisoned but released as part of Armistice;
Kurt Jahnke (died in #Russia ) and
