  6. #Tuberculosis is often described as a disease of the past. It isn’t.
Every year, millions fall ill and over a million people die, making TB still the deadliest bacterial infection.

We’re proud to contribute to TB research, from discovering the drug candidate BTZ-043 to advancing it towards a potential new treatment.
But on #WorldTBDay, we also honour the foundations: We recently named a seminar room after pioneering microbiologist Ruth Ella Moore, who worked on TB in the early 20th century.

  39. In Africa, of the three million people who develop TB disease every year, nearly 160,000 are children 0-4 years old, and another 160,000 are 5-14 years old.

Every year, about 500,000 people in Africa die because of TB. Children make up 15% (75,000) of these deaths.

Less than half of the children aged 0-14 who have TB are diagnosed – so they never even start treatment.
