Last night, my husband and I were spellbound by Jason Buck Storyteller’s storytelling at the Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury. His tale “How Jack Hare Stole the Sun King’s Crown” was rich with British folklore and perfect for marking the Spring Equinox and World Storytelling Day today.

It was a magical blend of myth and tradition, celebrating the beauty of spring, renewal and new beginnings.

Once there was a small, old house with cracked plaster walls. For a while, someone had to live there alone. During the day, every room shimmered and shivered with shadows. They were as content as the day was long, telling stories to shadows. As night fell, the shadows slipped one by one under Night’s thick cloak, until there was only darkness. They took up a candle but could find no matches. So they told the candle stories of fire until the candle flamed.
