The 2nd and 3rd fingers are slightly wider apart than the rest. It's normal :}

So, this is #Leshky. His species is called #Arka and he lives on the same planet as EB7. Leshky originates from cliffs made of obsidian-like crystal, the closest realm to the treacherous oceans. When he encounters EB7, he begins to call them "Shoto" - the Arka's word for snake.

Oh and EB7 is the aquatic, snake-like character. I'll share a link in the replies, so you know what they look like.

This is #EB7 (e-be-seven) - a character from my world. Their peculiar name is a "translation" to make it more accessible for vocal species. EB7's true name is a series of electric impulses: 111010110111

Maybe you remember EB7, the Karyta (mermaid-snake) character of my world. There is yet another character that EB7 meets after reaching the surface. This character had another name in the past, but I decided to call him #Leshky from now on.
This drawing is one of the more recent concepts I made of him. He is an #Arka, the counterpart to the Karyta.

When they first discovered that another species existed on their planet, #Karyta and #Arka became enemies very quickly. They are opposites in many ways, but the finger-gap is one small (useless) thing they have in common. They also share the stripes - in light and dark.

Additional thoughts on the finger arrangement of #Karyta and #Arka:

The small gap between the 2nd and 3rd finger is something that could hint at (very early) common ancestors, but they mainly have it, bec I wanted them to share a few inconspicuous morphological traits - something you'd only notice on second glance.

Hand comparison 🫶

The left one belongs to my #Arka species and the right one to the #Karyta. Those two share the same planet, but one species is terrestrial and the other is aquatic.

You see the small gap between the 2nd and 3rd finger? Both have it, even though the Karyta have those noodly fingers and webs.

Intermediate hand-update for my #Arka species.
They had four digits in the past, but five made more sense to me, as I wanted them to have a small similarity to the Karyta species. Both originate from the same planet. In addition I made their fingers shorter and more.. paw-like(?)

Might do another version, bec I have more ideas :)

And in case you were wondering: Yes, all my species & characters are from the same universe & are in some ways connected.
9 species are part of the federation, called Araz - #ZhorKhat, #Arka & #Karyta are part of it.
1 more species is extinct, the #Srella, known as "the old ones", whose legacy is used as a common ground (e.g. the simplified version of their language, standards for time & distances, & technology).

Later on, they learned more signs and were able to have full conversations.

Nowadays, it's very common on Yr'takia, their planet, to learn the sign language and the alphabet in addition to their native tongues.
Unfortunately, Karyta aren't able to produce words, so they can try to understand, but never speak on their own. However, there are devices that can transform their electric impulses into speech and vice versa.

In the beginning, the most prominent sign was "ry" which is an abbreviation for "rygis" and means "peace". It can be written with symbols and signed with a hand gesture - one hand is held like you would wave to another person, but frozen vertically, and the other hand is held horizontally in front of it. They used this a lot when they encountered each other unintentionally, just to show that they won't attack.

Regarding their language: You're right about the sign language! That's the first thing #Arka & #Karyta learned from the #ZhorKhat. The latter were the 3rd species to intervene and luckily were much more advanced already (think cowboys VS aliens :D). That's why they managed to figure out their languages quite quickly and tried to act as a bridge. Still wasn't easy though xD

And for #Karyta & #Arka who reside on space stations - like the gigantic "Set Il Rega" - they sometimes even stick together, as they consider each other more familiar in comparison to other inhabitants. And they share a language most others can't comprehend~

Their relationship improved over time! There are still areas on their planet where people are stuck in their beliefs (and development). Old habits die hard. But especially in more international areas (and I mean international in terms of "open for alien guests and trade"), #Karyta & #Arka live and work side by side with little to no hassle.

To their defense, they had no way of communicating. #Arka are acoustic, like humans, and #Karyta communicate via electric impulses.

And "the Age of Landing" (when Karyta first discovered land) happened during a time when both species were less civilized than humans are today.

Yes, exactly! And how did they react when they first learned of each other.. uhm... badly. Absolutely badly. They tried to annihilate each other, to the point where a third (alien) species had to step to stop them.

Her light-pink hair is a wig & her eyebrows are fake. Her true eye color is icy blue - akin to white.
This color is most dominant within her kind. It's said, that during their time on [Somnis], certain substances have altered the pigmentation of those humans.

Meanwhile, those humans evolved tremendously and managed to become an independent species alongside the [Var'U'San]. Though eventually, they fell out with their hosts, started a war and fled the planet.

This was how [Somnis] was destroyed, how the [Var'U'San] were almost annihilated and how a new human colony was born.

The name of this colony is [#Minār] - the humans who wreak havoc in my universe.

[Andris] is one of them.

Oh it's just bec I quite often avoid drawing clothes, bec I'm not good at it, bec I avoid them - this is a never ending story 😅

For this specific species (the #Darakay) it's actually very normal to wear clothes. Most common are layers of different pieces and/or thicker pieces for protection. I should learn how to draw this..

Then there are others like the #TarNex who don't wear anything at all. And the #ZhorKhat who wear bio-armor.

#Inktober - Dream.
I decided to do my own interpretation of the prompts, mixing them with characters and lore from my world.

[#EB7] has been dreaming about the surface since they were a child. They heard stories of the endless light and the dangers beyond the glittering wall. They didn't stop until their dream came true.

That's a [Var'U'San]. This species has 2 elbows - or 2 wrists(?) Judging by the type of movement of the middle joint it's rather 2 wrists than 2 elbows.. but, yeah, I'm rambling.

Anyway, in this sketch I experimented on how I can get a believable pose with that 3-jount set-up, like in an everyday situation - like checking nails for presentability 👀 or something.

Tar'nex usually live underground as the surface of their planet is too hot to be comfortable. Although their skin (and plates) can endure sunlight over short amounts of time, their eyes are adapted to extremely low light conditions - which makes makes them blind in daylight.

The second drawing shows a protective mask to shield the eyes.
