Projects like these are only possible thanks to the terrific #librarians and #cataloguers sharing data openly through well documented APIs and formats. The same cannot be said of all aggregating platforms feeding off of the commons. Even though we recorded thousands of #OCLC IDs on #Wikidata, #worldcat cannot be queried for the dimensional data of physical artefacts without an institutional subscription to their APIs—which not a single academic library in Germany seems to do (rightfully so imo. one should not pay for access to data one contributes pro bono)

#MarcXML encapsulated as a string in #JSON is a pain to work with as I am finding out trying to query #HathiTrust APIs for digitised items with a list of #OCLC numbers obtained via #SPARQL from #Wikidata.
Things I wish for:
1. direct access to the MARCXML from HathiTrust
2. a publicly accessible API for #Worldcat / OCLC to find holdings -

Wait -- do you now have to be signed into #Worldcat to see other editions/formats of a title?
I remember someone posting some crummy changes to Worldcat recently. Is this one of them?
When I click "View all formats and editions" I get a sign-in prompt that asks:
"Are you ready to unleash a world of knowledge and discovery?"
No, gross, I'm just ready to find the right edition of this book to add to my #Zotero.

Man is there some kinda service that let's people show what DVDs or Blu-Rays and such they own, that they could then offer for loan to other people, on a trust based system? Perhaps you have to meet in person, or perhaps it's local-only in that sense?
It could perhaps be shippable to other cities/countries if the other person has enough credit?
Like... fill in the gaps where libraries cannot (and often many libraries simply cannot accept more content, because they do not have the space; I know some local ones only took in media that was released in the last year sort of thing)
I'm thinking like a Peer-to-peer worldcat... just without yknow actually sharing the files that one could get in "trouble" for doing.

Anna's Archive, a meta-search engine for book piracy sources and shadow libraries, has announced a significant milestone. It has been secretly scraping WorldCat, the world's largest book metadata database, to further its mission of preserving all available books in the world, even if that means being at odds with copyright law. The dataset obtained from WorldCat includes 1.3 billion unique IDs, and Anna's Archive believes this data will help in its goal to map out all the books in the world and create a list of books that still need preservation. This move has not gone unnoticed, and the site has over 12 million monthly visits. However, it also faces legal risks and has stated its mission is worth the potential consequences.
