This goddess is known by many names among the Lashunta . Yet to all She is ~Mae~ - mother, and not only to Lashunta, but all creatures and all things. She is Castrovel personified Herself.

In some ways, Mahaere is a goddess even older than Matarasse, the watchful guardian Burning-Mother. Though in current cosmology Matarasse is the Mother of Worlds, prior to understanding of a heliocentric model, the Earth-mother was the Universe’s center. First is a photo by Lisa Vaz: ruin of a Khmer Temple. In my head, this could easily be part of the ruins of Queen Lanare's Palace, atop Mt. Eizohu, overlooking Son.

Next is a work by Sergei Musin (artstation samfx) of a street scene inspired by India, where he lives. Please ignore the elephant. Instead, replace it in your head with something that looks more like a triceratops. The Lashunta use 'Shieldhead' Qoelu as heavy freight beasts.

Southern & Southeast Asia continue to draw me as sources of inspiration for the Lashunta. It's a combination of many things: climate edging toward tropical, clothing styles, the huge and rich philosophical tapestry that brought the world not only Hinduism, but also Buddhism, Jainism, and much, much more, and (let's be honest) the stark distinction from Euro-Western fantasy tropes.

I don't believe I've found the actual artist, though I'm relatively confident this is published (and the copyright held) by 7th Orange Studios, per the note in the bottom right.

I was looking for illustrations that could represent Damaya Outriders fighting in a duel, which has been a topic on my mind, especially with coming right up to the climax of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_. Maybe this comes close? What intrigues me about this piece is the combination of violence and intimacy. Between the blood on the glaive and the victim's completely surrendered (possibly dead?) state, there is something passionate, possibly disturbing so. Maybe the old saying is true that death is never personal?

What could bring a knightly Outrider to commit such a deed? Is there a dark side to the Outrider code of honor?

Do we have a pair of Squox fighting a Megapython? Is this something that would only make sense in legend?

Vulkariki, the first Squox, is the child of Elindrae the Moon God and Shotaviras the First Shota, begotten from a trickster-war those two gods waged against each other. Given Elindrae's fluidity & shapeshifting knack, and Shotaviras's natural lustiness, perhaps that is no surprise. However, regarding which was Vulkariki's mother, and which was Vulkariki's father, there the legends become oddly muddled.

Whatever the truth, Vulkariki grows to have their own set of legendary adventures, becoming a trickster-hero worthy of both his parents. Do they fight a Megapython for posession of a great & wonderful Moqeva treasure?

These two pics illustrate the importance of water on #castrovel . Son and Qabarat both sit on the Yaro River, which is a major waterway running on the east side of the Stormshield Mountains, and equally important as the Nile, Yangtze, or Danube on Earth. On its eastern side, the Yaro connects to thousands of square miles of marshland. #lashunta society, especially in the cities, has grown on water, and uses it for livelihood, both sustenance and transportation.

Also, with all the rain this warm tropical planet has, Lashunta largely take rain as a source of fresh water for granted. I imagine the concept of well-digging, or even irrigation as it is practiced in many arid part of our world, for granted.

This pic's title is Colossal Dreadmaw. Seems fitting. I have a good friends who hates dinosaurs and want nothing to do with him. If you meet a critter like this, I can see why.

The Lashunta along the Shattersea Shore have gone to great lengths to explore their world. Not all have been successful. Though once they had ventured as far as the Colonies, the Formians' advent pushed them back. Legends also tell of a lost continent, which some name Ukalam, off to the northwest, though far, far too many explorers who have tried that distant shore have not returned. Was it something like this that crushed their dreams?
