What kept Stuart Fisk going during the HIV crisis? The sheer bravery of the people around him: patients, activists, and healthcare providers stepping up even when the risks were unknown. Their courage changed everything. #HealthcareHeroes #WorldAIDSDay

When the AIDS crisis hit, volunteers stepped up to provide critical support, driving people to appointments and offering companionship in a time of isolation and fear. #CommunitySupport #WorldAIDSDay

Earlier this week marked #WorldAIDSDay, a global movement to unite people in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Due to advances in research and progress in treatment, an infection isn’t the death sentence it once was. And there are other reasons for optimism.

A day late — World Aids Day was yesterday — but I was waiting for Kai to add alt text, which he's now done. A day late or not, this still seemed worth sharing.

Let's throw in some little evil to flavour the big evil:.
'For the first time since 1988, the U.S. is not officially commemorating World AIDS Day.'
'The State Department issued a terse statement last week saying, "an awareness day is not a strategy." The result is that on December 1, the United States is not commemorating World AIDS Day. It's the first time the U.S. has not participated since the World Health Organization created this day in 1988 to remember the millions of people who have died of AIDS-related illnesses and recommit to fighting the epidemic that still claims the lives of more than half a million people each year.'
Remember that this administration is killing people by stopping PEPFAR.

@PlinyTheOlder thank you for this. I'd love to see your whole list.
My godfather died of AIDS in the mid 90s. He is the only elder in my extended family whom I miss. He was honest and funny and cut through all of my family's formal phony bullshit. I was in my early 20s, and not out. He was in his mid 50s. Miss you, Kenneth.

Today, on World AIDS Day, we honour those we lost, support those living with HIV, and recommit to ending stigma and expanding access to care. Science saves lives — compassion does too. ❤️🌍 #WorldAIDSDay #WAD2025 #StopTheStigma

Today is World AIDS Day, and for the first time since its inception in 1988, the U.S. government will not be commemorating it. Trent Straube from POZ Magazine writes about the stats on HIV and AIDS, and the impact of the Trump administration. "Although new HIV rates have declined overall, progress is imperiled due to funding cuts and a hostile administration in the White House," writes Straube.
