  1. Soooo, I have not disappeared, but there was a lot going on. I am currently in my (very nice) guest family in Sapporo and have also started my language classes. All of it was/is quite exhausting with all the new impressions, but also incredibly interesting. I still need to spend a lot of effort to at least partially understand what happens around me, but I already can notice some improvement. I have also attached a few images from I took in my first days here in Sapporo.

As there is a backlog of Soul content (and a small lapse in Sapporo content, as I still have to get accustomed to my new situation), the next posts will try to catch up by showing of the other days in Seoul.

  2. The start of my working holiday in Japan is quite close and I can finally say that it feels like I have a plan. Two weeks ago, I finally got confirmation for my homestay in Sapporo and thus could confirm my language course too. This is where an issue presented itself: The language course is full starting in July, so they have to shorten what they offered to me...
After considering my options, I did not shorten my booking for the homestay while accepting the shortened duration for the language course. At the same time, I wrote a few more messages to other language schools asking who has space in July, because I still would like to attend a language course for around 3 months. Plan B is working full time at the end of my time in Sapporo. Plan C is more sightseeing.

One thing that worked great is the application for the visa. There is a comprehensive list of documents needed for the working holiday. I had to fill out some forms, update my resume, name a basic travel itinerary, write a one pager on my motivation for visiting Japan and some other things, but the application itself was really easy. Just show up at the responsible embassy (without needing an appointment) and give them the stack of papers. One week later I can collect my visa. Suprisingly easy.

I do also have my health insurance and flights set up!

  7. 🇳🇱 De grote verschillen tussen #Nederland en #NieuwZeeland?

    Nederland...
    * Altijd gehaast, druk en gestrest
    * In de tuin op zomerse dagen geeft geen rust: non-stop onzin kletsende buren / buurtbewoners 😱
    * Beperkte ruimte

    Nieuw-Zeeland.... 😊

    #workingholiday visa, #digitalnomad visa, or even permanent residency. That's how I ended up in #Australia in 2017: remotequeer.co/blog/overseas-a " -- bsky.app/profile/saul.remotequ

  10. What if you were able to spend less time at the office and more on #organicFarms?

Earlier today we wondered whether starting #PickersUnion's might be a thing. As a group you'd take on #fruit picking jobs on #organicFarms.

    Just like a #workingHoliday.

Your tribe might go out once every month for 3 days of #picking.

If this is something that you think you might like, why not setup a #FediIdentity for one in your area?
