I was a 'peacekeeper' (read: crossing guard) at yesterday's #WorkersOverBillionaires march, and so was away from the din of chanting (and heckling) for most of it. Overheard a young girl ask her mother why we were protesting. The mom said "they have something they believe in". I smiled at her & she asked me "what do you believe in"?
The best I could think to say in the moment was s/t like "well, the current people in power in the federal government seems to want to destroy the country, and so we're making sure people know we don't like it.".
What I *wish* I'd said was that there were powerful people in government going out of their way to persecute people who had no power--to bully them. And we're letting people know that we see what's going on and we don't like it.

During today's #50501 #WorkersOverBillionaires rally a speaker from a "red state" detailed a harrowing experience on protest suppression, including the use of police surveillance. How great it is #Seattle is in a blue state?
Except that Seattle's police have been stepping up surveillance, photographing protestors, and unleashing chemical weapons since summer of last year. And next week, the Seattle city council -- made up entirely of #Democrats -- will vote to expand city surveillance.
