MorphOS: Word processing software Stylos 0.113
In October last year, Yannick 'Papiosaur' Buchy began creating his word processing program "Stylos" for MorphOS. In the meantime, a modern, feature-rich word processor for MorphOS has been created that supports both simple text files and formatted documents (RTF) and can export PDFs. Texts, RTFs and images can be dragged directly from the Ambient desktop into the document.

My all time favorite #wordprocessor, Lotus Word Pro, still runs under Windows 11 ARM :)
The exact same binary runs from Windows 95 onwards.
Like many other software it died because it was bought by IBM, which stopped development in 2007. Actually it stopped development well before 2007, but the last fixpack is from that year.
Word Pro is a child of Ami Pro, the first notable word processor for Windows.

I've been hunting for something to replace my venerable Word 2003 for years and have recently stumbled over #AtlantisWordProcessor
It is near-perfect in looks, speed and customisation. There are the usual problems with getting a perfect 1:1 layout from MS Word or LibreOffice, but there's only one feature that really keeps me from switching over: It doesn't seem to be able to read or make character styles (as opposed to paragraph style templates, which work very well).
For all of you who don't need that one feature (or scripting or VBA) and never quite got comfy with Libre Office, this shareware is a good, lightweight alternative to other word processors and that at $49 for a life-time license.

Okay, so here comes a hole in my "#markdown as #WordProcessor" strategy: sharing #documents.
I got .md files that I need to convert into #PDF, and it needs to be done on #Android.
Sure, the markdown editor supports printing to PDF, but it doesn't allow templating, so there is little to no margins, no font size control, or anything that's necessary to make a document readable through formatting.
Has anyone solved this problem, beyond using #pandoc with #termux?

draft - there seems to be a bug on google docs for android, where, when you make a new doc, and then click the "untitled doc" area, it does nothing. it's supposed to auto-populate with the first sentence of the document to make it easy to title your docs as you go but it appears to be currently not functioning as expected

I am having an unreasonable amount of fun rediscovering the amazing #atari8bit universe. My trusty original #Atari800 has been fitted with #lotharek's #INCOGNITO board and #FujiNetPro (and a flawless 1050 floppy drive for good measure). Figuring out how to get all this hardware playing nicely together has taken me a few evenings of experimentation and many hours trawling through the #AtariAge forums! I'm getting the hang of it now. #SpartaDOSX is thankfully quite like #MSDOS, with a pleasing #Atari accent.
It's funny - games don't really interest me. It's the utility software that floats my boat. Can I actually be productive with #FlashJazzCat's #TheLastWord #WordProcessor? I can see myself writing official correspondence with it, printed to one of the many printers emulated by the #FujiNet.
Is #AtariPril a thing? Attempt to use an 8-bit Atari for all your computing needs during April? I might just get enough skills built up by then to be somewhat productive!

Dear #Unicode Consortium, OS vendors, and #WordProcessor devs.
Fix the #ellipsis situation. #AP styling demands ... (three dots in a row) and #Chicago (#CMOS) . . . (three dots spaced out, but still a single character). Most narrative writers (fiction, memoir, etc.) standardize on Chicago styling.
A character exists to support the AP styled ellipsis. For Chicago we have to type [dot] [non-breaking space] [dot] [non-breaking space] [dot]. This sucks. FIX IT!
