  1. Stan Getz & Bill Evans, Previously Unreleased Recordings, 1974 on Verve

Sometimes just referred to as Stan Getz & Bill Evans, this was recorded in 1964 but not released until 1974. Ron Carter (A side) and Richard Davis (B side) on bass, with Elvin Jones on drums. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s studio in Englewood Cliffs NJ and produced by Creed Taylor.

There’s a whole series of “Previously Unreleased Recordings” advertised on the rear jacket. Beautiful sounding LP well packaged.

My copy—via Worcester Record Riot—is of the 2024 UMG/UMe reissue, overseen by Chad Kassem from Acoustic Sounds.

  2. Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Zuma, 1975 on Reprise

Seventh studio album from Neil Young, and the first credited with Crazy Horse after Danny Whitten died in 1972.

The individual song credits have two songs not attributed to Crazy Horse: “Pardon My Heart” (credited just to Neil Young) and “Through My Sails” (credited “with Crosby, Stills & Nash”).

“Cortez the Killer” is a 7 and a half minute epic, and “Danger Bird” is also nearly 7 minutes – but this is Neil and Crazy Horse in full form and they sound great.

My copy—via the Worcester Record Riot—is an original Santa Maria pressing on orange Reprise labels.

  3. Fleetwood Mac, The Pious Bird of Good Omen, 1969 on Blue Horizon

This is the earlier, Peter Green led, British Blues Fleetwood Mac, and collects their first four non-album UK singles and their B-Sides. It serves as a pretty good intro to what that first-stage Fleetwood Mac was all about.

Eddie Boyd guests on “The Big Boat” and “Just the Blues” – and there are covers here of Little Willie John and Elmore James as well as originals by Green with Jeremy […]
