Join Matt Burke for this fun journey into making personalized pieces with our laser cutter.

Students will start in our #woodshop, learning how to prepare a pre-cut board or live edge slab from a selection of options. Pieces will be cut to size and ready to finish plane, sand and prepare for laser engraving.

Students will then take their prepared board to our #LaserCutter and learn how to engrave a family recipe on the surface.

To make sure we have enough time to complete your projects in class, please submit your recipe ahead so MAXT staff can pre-process your laser cut file."

Join Paul for this fun evening class learning some new skills with the #bandsaw and #DrillPress. Students will learn how to use a #jig to cut a semi circular block. Then mark with laser engraved template before using the new tilting table on our drill press. Students will also have the option to create a finished edge to their block with our router and laser engrave labels for a standard sketching pencil set on the block - or go wild and give their block a personality with a face and crazy pencil hair!"

How do I clean sawdust from an old shop? I can’t pressure wash the building interior because the electrical is iffy. I can’t trust that hidden conduits are sealed.

Static electricity is a real problem, though I could wait for monsoon season to raise the humidity.

I have a dumb shop vac and a Nifilsk vac (small, but excellent filtration.)

My second woodshop class project. These will be Christmas tree ornaments. I cut the oak leaves out with a bandsaw. I still need to sand and finish them and drill press a hole to loop on a ribbon to hang them on the tree. The band saw blade kept coming off around the leaf shape turns so eeek. Maybe i need to be using a finer blade. #woodshop #projects

My first woodshop project! An evening course through my city adult education dept. It is a compost sifting screen and it works great! Woodshop is only offered at one jr high in town - and not at all at the high school. That’s a crime IMO. #woodshop #makestuff. Added: my kid in college came home and helped me staple the mesh on and got a wee bit carried away. Staple guns are fun.

@greypilgrim Yeah, Zero skateboards are super fine. They seem to differentiate between USA and Europe/Asia, though. While the decks in the US are made of fine wood by BBS(Generator/Bareback) in Mexico or by Clutch distribution ( I think they produce in California), the decks in Europe/Asia are made by Dwindle or Dailan Huahong in China. I am quite sure the Pro decks are those from Generator/Bareback.

Put the band saw on wheels today. No more scooting it around like it's a square barrel and it can stay out of the way against the wall. Almost 5 inches taller but that's a good thing for me.

Cheap 2-inch locking casters rated at 150 lbs each. $10 for 4 of them and the quality is actually pretty good. Sealed skate bearings and directional lock too.

It's not a tool I used very often and for some reason I have four of them!

Reaching for this one for a rare outing, I noticed the original blade clamp had split around the screw thread and was no longer serviceable.

The original clamp seemed to be a Mazak or Zamak casting so I made a replacement from a gash piece of mild steel.

I like to give steel pieces an oil blue finish.
