Vintage-style salt box, made from Syzygium luehmannii (small-leaved Lilly Pilly) timber from our own backyard hedge.

We cut part of the hedge back, milled a few boards from it, and let them air-dry for about a year. Once the timber was ready, I turned one of those boards into this salt box.

J'ai fait cette petite sculpture en décembre dernier. J'étais pas vraiment satisfait du résultat, notamment concernant les ailes, les cheveux et les yeux. Je me suis offert quelques nouveaux petits outils pour Noël, alors j'ai décidé de reprendre le chantier. Sur la deuxième photo, on peut voir que l'ai déjà bien plumée. J'espère que je vais m'en sortir.

Ça faisait 2-3 semaines que je bidouillais cet oiseau, et je pense qu'il est enfin terminé. J'ai dû m'y reprendre à deux fois pour les ailes, à un moment j'ai cru que c'était fichu. J'ai hésité à le mettre en couleur, puis j'ai hésité entre aquarelle et crayon de couleur, puis il était plus temps d'hésiter, c'était fait.

Je l'ai sculpté au couteau, pour un client qui l'a choisi parmi mes croquis, dans un beau morceau de merisier normand revalorisé. J'ai forgé une lune en argent recyclé et incrusté une nacre ancienne.

I got it a year ago as a gift, so it's high time to do something about it 😅 It's a wooden no-glue-needed kit (some sanding needed) so it should be a quick fun build.
