Women of IXD Deep Cuts #16 is out. Educators Meredith Davis & Kathryn McCoy, both presidents of the now defunct American Center for Design in the 1990s. They shepherded the Living Surfaces conferences into being, which were some of the first for designers working in Multimedia, then the Internet and Web. They gave us opportunities to share our work and have conversations about the evolution of the designer's role into these new spaces.

Learn about Lucy Suchman & her work at Xerox, effectively creating the sub-discipline of enterprise ethnography and prototyping in context. I hated to have cut this from the book (although these contributions are discussed in the narrative - just not a lengthy profile).
Hard to believe that back then, this kind of work wasn't integrated into the IXD and UX process. -

International Women's Day - a reminder that we make up over slightly half of all UX designers, yet leadership roles are still predominantly male, women make less money & are often left out of the histories.

I just published a profile on the designer Ray Eames last night while trying to get over jet lag. While not an interaction designer, Eames and her husband, were quintessential mid-century designers working across media. Ray thought about data, about making models to work through concepts, making information clear, and if digital had been around, I am sure they would have worked in that media as well.
