Sylvia Robinson was a singer, producer, and label lead with sharp instincts that changed culture.

📈 She rose to number 1 on the #RandB charts with the very sexy Pillow Talk in 1973, covered by Janet Jackson later.

🚗 Years later, she saw hip hop and MCs playing live. She loved the energy of rapping, which was only heard on the street or at parties. She quickly auditioned three rappers off the street in her teal Oldsmobile 98 and immediately took them to her mansion for more refinement.

🏡 Not able to decide which one to record, she put them together right there as the Sugar Hill Gang. They recorded Rapper's Delight a few days later. She is playing bass on that track.

📻 Resistant radio stations eventually played this unusual music and listeners could not get enough.

🪈 I remember listening to Bobbi Humphrey when I was younger, amazed at hearing a flute up front. And her songs were jams, funky and filled with soul.

🎵 This one is burned into my brain. Stevie Wonder on harmonica. I was in heaven.

🎶 Ethel Waters was a child of rape and a child bride at 13 to an abusive husband, but rose to star at the Cotton Club, be the highest-paid performer on Broadway, be the first African American to star in her own television show, be nominated for an Academy Award, and, well, there's plenty more.

:heart_pride: She was also reportedly bisexual and had a significant LGBTQ following.

Crystal Waters is her grand niece.

I saw this band as it was starting out. They play roots country, the #GreatAmericanSongbook, Django Reinhardt/Stefan Grapelli and more. Their 'Pennies from Heaven" will bring tears to your eyes.

Fiddler and singer ELANA JAMES leads them to glory. In this audience-member video, she tears into a classic.

🎷 British saxophonist and bandleader Nubya Garcia. Evocative compositions flavored by Afrobeat, soul and more.

🎤 Background singers add an ethereal quality. Listen for them to weave around the sax solo.

  21. Ikinokori Bokura - Ichiko Aoba

This is a sweet introspective song. Really loving it.
The tune reminded me of something by another musician I couldn't quite remember. Maybe John Mayer or Nick Drake.

But finally reading lyric translations today, it is...kinda dark themed.

Now, having watched the video as well, the imagery seems to capture both the light sound and dark theme pretty fittingly.
