#womenintechbook — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #womenintechbook, aggregated by home.social.

  1. This year I'm doubling down on what I really want to write, like the #WomenInTechBook for which I already did 23 interviews with women in tech jobs in 2024 and which I had to pause for other people's projects – like basically all of my own books except 2042 and the data privacy book. I still want to make the #Kickstarter campaign for it to pay the editors, one for the English and one for the German version. I hope to also revive some of the other things in my drawer. #Feminism

  2. Guten Morgen vom Küchentisch. Heute viel administratives Zeug. #Autorenleben #writerslife #indieauthor

  3. #WritersCoffeeClub 01 Feb — Shameless self-promotion. What writing project are you working on?

Currently I'm translating my novella 2042 (set after the war and just in the midst of climate crisis – but with a hopeful and positive ending!) into English. #Chaostopia2042
Also I have plottet two short stories which need writing down and should finish the plot for a novel in the coming week. And after that I'll FINALLY!1!!11! take up the #WomenInTechBook again.

#Autorenleben #writerslife #indieauthor

    *Lynn Conway* #LynnConway RIP 2024
    ...more info / story...
    =======================

    #trans woman #CPU #designer

Lynn developed "generalized dynamic instruction dispatch" for IBM in 1966.

2 years later she was kicked out, just after Robert Tomasulo published the "Tomasulo Algorithm" for out-of-order execution of floating point instructions, utilizing Lynn's work.

Everyone knows Tomasulo (and he did great work, mind you!), but no-one knows Lynn.

Later, in technical compsci, you may stumble upon highly integrated circuits, everyone there knows #VLSI but not the inventor, our dear Dr. Conway.

Her story, her struggle against IBM who took decades to apologize to her for her mistreatment. She transitioned in darker times and pioneered not "only" in compsci. She was what many would call "greater than life". She died early Jun 2024.

The name of Conway is usually dropped and both concepts (register renaming etc. and multiple-issue) subsumed under one, effectively erasing Conway's work. If it isn't then multiple-issue is often erroneously attributed to Yale Patt.

Da geht noch was!

  19. @harkank @tante It took me about a month to write #NaUndDasBuch back in 2019. So it's feasible, of course depending on what you want to do. I plan to write the #WomenInTechBook within about 6 weeks this year after gathering the information I want.

  22. This is the cover of the #WomenInTechBook! "It's Never Just You" – a #nonfiction, part-#memoir book on how women come into tech jobs and what makes them stay. Hope, you like it. =)

The #Kickstarter prelaunch page is up. Hop on over and klick the button to get notified when the campaign launches.

Da hätte ich vielleicht was total Spannendes schreiben sollen!
