We went to The Museum of Somerset for the first time in years. So wonderful to see so many of the women and goddesses from my books there, e.g. Sarah Biffin, Ada Lovelace, Minerva, Mary Bridge and Louie Hooper!
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable as always.
See On This Day in Somerset or Unsung Women in Somerset for more.

✨ Happy St Elfleda’s Day! ✨
(The alternative date is 14th April.)
Did you know? Two miracles are associated with this 10th-century saint: 1️⃣ When a king visited Elfleda and she had no drinks for his men, she prayed—and turned water into mead so everyone could have a drink! 2️⃣ Want to know her second miracle? Check out “Unsung Women in Somerset” or “On This Day in Somerset” for the full story.

📻 I was on BBC Somerset again today talking about On This Day in Somerset.
We chatted about a witch, a pilot and all sorts!
If you want to give it a listen, I come on around the 2:16 mark.

The Bank of England has announced a redesign of our nation's banknotes and has invited the general public to suggest what could feature on them.
I've just posted to Medium my suggestions for women with a connection to Somerset. I came across them when researching for my books Unsung Women in Somerset & On This Day in Somerset.

Frances Talbot, Countess of Morley wrote a poem on her journey from Longleat to Bath.
"The poem was the result of a breakfast row around 1820, where Lady Morley argued that writing rhyming verse was easy. She decided to prove her point by crafting a poem on her way to Bath, ensuring that every other line rhymed with Longleat."

On this day in 1881, Diana Bevin née Tidbould gave birth to her seventh child in Winsford, an Exmoor village in Somerset. This child was Ernest Bevin, who later became a Labour politician.
Diana was known to be very loving and hardworking, taking on a variety of roles such as a laundress, midwife, kitchen assistant and a worker at the local Royal Oak pub.

Today is St Ethelburg’s Day!
6th February is also the feast day of her husband, King Ine.
Ethelburg. Queen of Wessex. Battle leader. Traveller. Pilgrim. Nun.
There's a whole chapter about the fascinating Ethelburg in Unsung Women in Somerset. Out now! books2read.com/unsung
Pictured is the holy well where Ine and Ethelburg’s friend St Aldhelm died. Located in Doulting, it's worth a visit in my opinion.

We were in Salisbury the other day, where Sarah Fielding, the mother of children's literature, spent some of her childhood.
She later moved to #Bath, #Somerset, where she died.
I've loved researching her for my books about women in Somerset!

#OnThisDay in 744 AD, during the reign of Athelheard and Frithugyth, a document was written up in which Lulla gave lands at Baltonsborough to Glastonbury Abbey and she placed nearby lands at Lottisham and Lydford-on-Fosse at the King of Mercia’s disposal.
Lulla of Baltonsborough was possibly the abbess of a double monastery: a religious house of both monks and nuns.

#OnThisDay in 1860, Marian Levitt Impey died at the age of 6.
It must have been heartbreaking for Catherine Impey and her family.
Chapter 19 of Unsung Women in Somerset focuses on Catherine and her amazing contribution to anti-racism.

#OnThisDay in 1879, Dr Annie Wainwright Hyatt was born. She was a trailblazer at a time when it was very difficult for women to become doctors. Plus she worked through both world wars in the Shepton Mallet area.
