Has Wolfram Alpha gotten stupider over time?
I remember using it years ago to do reasonably-complex unit analysis, and it would figure out and name the correct result unit if you put in a formula of units that reduced to it.
E.g. querying something like "length / time" would spit out "velocity" somewhere in the answer. Or "voltage * current" would get 'power' or 'electric apparent power' if it was feeling pendantic.
And now it just… doesn't do that anymore? What the fuck? Is this some dumb AI bullshit again? Because that was actually a useful tool at one point, goddamnit.

#Google muss ab dem 6. März 2024 auf Android-Geräten beim Setup auch andere Suchmaschinen als die hauseigene zur Auswahl stellen. Grund genug, die anderen mal auszuprobieren, sofern man sich damit bislang noch nicht beschäftigt hat. Der "Standard" hat eine Übersicht parat. Behandelt werden dort neben #Bing und #Yahoo auch #Duckduckgo, #Startpage, #Qwant, #Swisscows, #Yandex, #Ecosia und #WolframAlpha.

@landley also most those "#LLM"s do is being a shitty version of #CleverBot with some #InstantAnswers from #DuckDuckGo and a way worse interface and options than #WolframAlpha.
I don't see how anyone thinks that's revolutionary, cuz actual #AI's like @Hoppel do exist but take years to train in realtime, since they learn not dissimilar from children...

#wolframalpha is really good. Can render graphs of mathematical functions, provide good one liner answers to questions like bmi calculation formula, etc,etc. Can also do integration differentiation, and other mathematical operations.
