First sighting of a pair of ducks this year.
I had seen the male and the female earlier but today is the first time that I saw them together. I approached carefully to say 'hello' and supply a little more breakfast, expecting them to be shy initially. They weren't - both were supremely relaxed with me and confident.
They are also used to me pointing the camera at them.
We know each other well from previous years.

I have a wall calendar printed every year with my own work. The photograph for February is a street scene observed in Steyr, Upper Austria, in 1982 (around this time of the year) - when I was still very young, the world was full of endless possibilities and the future was far, far away.
Goodness, this was 44 years ago!
The photograph was conceived on Agfapan 100 film.

Internal temperature of my compost heap this morning, after cold nights and much rain, just over 45°C. Happy with this at this stage.
On the surface grass cuttings from a week ago, cuttings from the garden, deadheads and kitchen 'waste', such as vegetable cuttings, peanut shells, egg shells and coffee grounds.

I compost almost everything from the garden, including weeds, plus vegetable 'waste' from the kitchen, coffee grounds and egg shells.
On the left, one of the composting bays now. Mostly brown material still. By autumn this should be beautiful compost.
On the right, ready compost from last year.
