“‘Love Of Country’ is a song about the dark side of patriotism and nationalism, and what they become when they are warped and weaponised. Across the world, we are seeing hatred of ‘other’ spreading like a disease. No claiming of land today is more barbaric than the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

In the face of, and beyond such clear acts of evil, it is more vital than ever to cherish the richness of our diverse communities and the power of human connection. We must stand firm against the rise of nationalist ideologies and speak up for those whose worlds are being torn apart by hatred and violence.

Normalmente, un disco es compacto o desparejado. El término medio se percibe raro. Una disonancia. Un fallo.
Las canciones distintas se guardan para el siguiente o para reediciones y así se evita esta percepción.

En Wolf Alice metieron como cuarta pista Just Two Girls. Y a priori se puede interpretar forzada dentro de The Clearing, para otras hubiese sido un bonus track. Pues van con todo y acaba de suceder a White Horses, por lo que ya es el cuarto single oficial. ¿Quién dijo que su inclusión fue sin querer?

El espíritu setentas del disco sale en cada armonía de Just Two Girls, esto junto con la voz principal arman un pegamento suficiente para que esté ahí y no sea un sencillo suelto en su obra.

Sí es una canción distendida que podría haber estado en un Back To Basics vol. 2 y, mucho mejor, ser ese dueto que hasta ahora se nos ha negado entre RAYE y Jessie Ware (¡necesitamos!).

Si hablásemos en términos Lego, las piezas del tema habrían formado un magnífico cohete sin techo que lo limite, apto para volar. La melodía y los arreglos son despampanantes y se revuelcan en el lecho y en el suelo sin poder controlarse.

La letra tan llana se canta preciosa, dando belleza a pasajes ordinarios, de tal modo que no parecen solo dos chicas sino LAS chicas. Y los agudos, sobre todo en el estribillo, son un acierto mayúsculo. Parece un tema setentas con toda una banda tocando detrás (tan buena es la instrumentación) de las divertidas (y pillinas) cantantas. Aunque yo apunto al puente como lo más top de la canción. Dulcísimo.

Sin duda lo más pop del álbum, y no hay que avergonzarse de ello, al revés, hay que darle salida a bombo y platillo. Para ser intensas siempre habrá tiempo.

Parece fácil de componer. Parece fácil de cantar. Es gozosa a gran escala. Por eso es tan buena.

25 favorite songs 🎼 released so far in 2025

Listed below are my 25 favorite alternative/indie rock songs released to date in 2025. Ten separate artists are represented on the list with two from Ireland (Cliffords and Florence Road), one from the UK (Wolf Alice), and the rest from the states with such diverse locations as Abilene, Texas (Dexter & the Moonrocks); Carmel, Indiana (Wishy); New York City (Momma, Been Stellar, and Blondshell); El Paso, Texas (Late Night Night Drive Home); and Seattle (Deep Sea Diver).

For the first time in quite awhile, there were no artists from Canada on the list, but there is still half a year to go until the best tracks of the year are announced. The songs listed below are presented in order of preference at the current time.
