Roux Davies: “Reading council has a housebuilding target of 800 homes a year, included in that are energy-efficient green homes and affordable council homes."
“In 2023, they had issues building 50 affordable homes because of the lack of capacity on the electricity grid.
“Because they couldn't have the capacity on the grid to have green infrastructure like heat pumps, they instead installed gas heating."

Have you used a Hello Bench?
I noticed a Hello Bench at a local nature area near where I live. HelloBench are a Woodley and Wokingham community initiative designed to promote human connection and eliminate loneliness.
It seems like a kind idea to get people chatting and connecting.

#Reading is also divided in half by the #RiverThames - there are only 3 points to cross it - at #Caversham Bridge, Reading Bridge and just outside in #Sonning - even this afternoon that bridge must have been #flooded , as #Wokingham #Council and #TVP (Thames Valley Police) had closed off the road (adding to the traffic on the remaining two bridge crossings). The Council wants to build a third bridge but surrounding Councils are against it

I've been working with these folks, delivering leaflets and getting the message out. It's either Lib Dem or Tory in #Wokingham. I know where I'm putting my vote! #ToriesOut

Conservative MP Sir John #Redwood is standing down at #2024GE
Another of Major's "bastards" bites the dust...... 10 years too late to save us from the self-inflicted injury that was #brexit
#libDem is the best vote in #Wokingham to ensure another gammon plank does not take his place

Council seats:
🟠 Liberal Democrats: 27 (+1)
🔵 Conservatives: 19 (-3)
🔴 Labour: 8 (+3)
⚫ Independents: 0 (-1)STAYS as no overall control.
This is John Redwood's constituency and a top Lib Dem target. Interesting that Lab have made the most gains here.

'Halve it: Residents call on council and police to drastically cut speed limits on Wokingham’s roads'
'government guidance also notes that in 2022, 27% of all road deaths in England occurred on national speed limit rural single carriageway roads – and states that speed limits on single carriageway rural roads should take account of vulnerable road users wherever there is no footway.'

@nocto Not nearly as far, but a walking and cycling sign at Arborfield Green pointing at Aldershot, 14 miles away - the sign is the sort you get on shared use paths or quiet roads, but this expects people to walk and cycle on a series of busy and hostile A roads without paths. The route to Wokingham is bad but at least it's only 4 miles.

A councillor in #Wokingham: 'learnt about the concept of 15-minute neighbourhoods where residents could walk or cycle within their community to access shops, schools, GP surgeries and the other things they need to live.
Many of the new towns designed and built in the 1950s, and 1960s used that as a blueprint. However, over time, the car became king and walking and cycling became less attractive on roads congested with traffic.'

'The ‘war on motorists’ is an over-used fiction, being wheeled out by the Conservatives in a desperate attempt to appease right wing critics and win a few votes.'
'To attempt to create a division between motorists and cyclists or pedestrians is a base tactic and, more importantly, it won’t work.'(Cllr Rachel Burgess)

Unearthed this Royal County of #Berkshire Official Guide from 1991 on what is, coincidentally, the 25th anniversary of the County Council's demise. I can't see much online about the guide, so I'll scan and PDF it over the weekend and add it to the #InternetArchive so you can all share in the 1990s nostalgia!
