  2. I am updating my athom/iotorero WLED controlers from 0.14/15 to 16. I really like the new particle system effects. PS Fire looks a lot better than the old Fire effect.

    But ESP naming scheme is quite confusing... so which firmware should be applied? I am failing for the one ESP-02 esp8266 one.. I think I tried all possible firmware files, all of them failed (not bricking the hardware yet 😰)

  13. @dzb Sehr cool! Ich bin seit geraumer Zeit dran, mir eine LED Matrix zu basteln, die (nach derzeitiger Planung) aus 4 horizontal angeordneten 16x16 LED Panels besteht, also 64x16 "Pixel", gesteuert mit WLED. Klappt schon im Prototyp-Stadium ganz gut. Jetzt "nur noch" die berüchtigten letzten 20%: Gitter 3D-drucken und irgendwie an die Wand kriegen. #electronics #wled #display #matrix #homebrew #basteln #elektronik

  15. Does someone have a #WLED board that include as a 12/24V -> 5V buck converter for WS2812 type LED-Strips? Ideally also with a power-switch that cuts the LEDs power when they are not lit.

    I am explicit asking for a integrated board that has already been designed. I don't want to put some DCDC module next to a normal WLED/ESP32 board. Nor do I want to design my own right now.

  19. Alright folks unfortunately @darkosubotica re-tripped a desired hobby of mine and I'm going to get into programmable LEDs.

    Looking for all suggestions and input! Its a tough space for hobbyists. I'll just be documenting my thought process here.

    **What's important to me?**

    - programming, not tinkering with wires and soldering
    - I'm interested in individually addressable LEDs for fine-grained effects / fun. I know I won't use those capabilities to light my wardrobe, but it's fun!
    - I like accurate whites. In a past life I was a theater lighting designer.

    **Things I have to figure out:**

    - WLED supporting controller (ideally supports 5v and 12v)
    - Zigbee vs wifi?
    - Leaning zigbee, but then I need a zigbee hub, so which one
    - LED Strip type (WS2812b vs WS2805), and seller
    - Solder-less connectors?
    - Surely something else I'm unaware of

  22. Learn here how to install the wLED binary, which means flashing your ESP32 microcontroller.

    Make sure your power source is constant, which means use a uninterruptible power supply, UPS, at least while you are flashing!

    Please do not brick your ESP32

  23. This is een important word of warning from the wLED Creator

    New setups should use the ESP32 not the dated ESP8266 because that micro controller reaches end of life / end of support soon. The ESP32 also has Bluetooth which The ESP8266 lacks.

  31. What started off as trash in the street, then became disused trash in a friend's garden after they ran out of space for it, has become a shiny new 2D LED Matrix wall in Birkenhack after a good cleanup in the sink. There are five ingredients to this LED Matrix wall:

    1. Plastic Bottles
    2. Standard British Milk Crates
    3. Tinfoil
    4. LEDs

  35. A nice end to the working year.

    Today some 22 ohm 0402 resistors turned up and I replaced the incorrect ones on the USB data lines on our My Bike's Got LED prototype boards.

    With those two components replaced, the ESP32C3 could see the laptop's attempts to talk to it, and replied.

    I can now flash code onto it over USB! 🎉

  37. By the way, #DDP is so simple that I wrote a hacky, rudimentary server for it in about 50 lines of #MicroPython, from scratch, in about an hour. Uploaded it to an #ESP32, pointed a #WLED controller at it and everything worked on the first attempt.
