The Wizard's audience chamber looks like it's using live fire! Maybe a miniature? It's for certain you don't see actors in the same shot as that fire. Except at their first scene. Could that be a rear projection? #WizardofOz

Glinda was the Good Witch of the SOUTH in the book, and only turned up toward the end, in Oz. The Good Witch of the North was an elderly looking woman who greeted Dorothy at Munchkinland, variously named Locasta or Tattypoo. MGM combined them into one character. #WizardofOz

Watching the camera track backwards and crane up to lead Dorothy through a CROWD of Munchkins. Hey, that's what we now call a Lip Dub! https://youtu.be/ZPjjZCO67WI?is=RJOzsZfuHjZI_1gO #WizardofOz

I saw this news and called out, "Oh no! Margaret Hamilton died!", and Rozie said, "Wow, she must've been REALLY old."

"No, not THAT Margaret Hamilton." (Her namesake was the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz.)

I wonder if NASA's Margaret Hamilton dressed up as The Witch for Halloween.

And we all instantly recognized the source of this Electric Light Orchestra LP cover. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #wizardofoz

That "State Fair Omaha" balloon finally bugged me enough to look it up: The Nebraska State Fair rotated between Omaha & Lincoln until 1901, then settled in Lincoln until moving to Grand Island in 2011. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #wizardofoz

All this great original soundtrack music, but for the big chase scene they dropped in "Night on Bald Mountain" by Modest Mussorgsky. I know there are other borrowed tunes, but this is just the most obvious. #WizardofOz #svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

#WizardofOz trivia fans know the cut dance number was "The Jitterbug," nothing like the Jitterbug dance just then becoming popular, but they didn't want to hook up to a current fad. And I agree it would have broken the flow of the forest scene. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

All the #WizardofOz scenes with fire obviously used REAL flame. But luckily the audience chamber with Oz is not where the actors are, for safety's sake. And wasn't that kind of what being called into the principal's office was like? #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

Can't nail down the source of tonight's #Sventune. It MAY be "Play a Simple Melody" by Irving Berlin. #wizardofoz #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

And time to get coated with asbestos! #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #wizardofoz

Another great gag: Scarecrow & Tin Man try to snap their fingers in defiance of the witch. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #WizardofOz
And how did they get "I'm just a DANDY-lion" past the Hays office!?

Now at age 60-something, the scariest part of #WizardofOz is Bolger's Scarecrow dance, where her leaps high in the air and falls flat on his back! Owwwwwww! #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

Wait! When the Mayor proclaimed "This is a day of independence,
For all the Munchkins and their descendants!"
Did the guy next to him add "If any!"
#WizardofOz
And Glinda already looked 3 sheets to the wind.
#Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

@heymcdermott oh I was 3 or 4 and it was terrifying! #svengoolie #wizardOfOz

3. The house dashes to the ground, & Dorothy's reaction is only, "…Oh!"
#wizardofoz #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie
2/2

And Professor Marvel uses the same method as every "psychic" working the gullible today. #WizardofOz #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

I freely admit: seeing #WizardofOz at age 5, on parents' 12" B&W set, scared me spitless!
Now I see it's because those practical special effects looked real (within the reality of those tiny sets and great backgrounds). And horror is leavened by really funny gags! #svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

This post is Ginny Di's fault. She posted a video about a flowerling necromancer. I just got Adventures in Oz which has rosefolk so I thought I'd create a necromancer. I drew it like the image in the rpg book but novels have the head inside the flower so I did a barbarian but it had the petals close together. Most flower humanoid with the petals out more. (Wife recommended flowers from Alice in Wonderland for reference.) #oz #WizardOfOz #dnd #art

About that Oz short-story treasury…

The campaign to print Dorothy And Her Princess In Oz is live!

It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, everyone here is friends of Dorothy, there’s not much continuity from one story to the next but if Baum didn’t care about it than we won’t either. If you follow me on AO3, you’ve already seen the fics — now’s your chance to get them (a) in print (b) with all-new bonus art. (I have drawn so much new art for this.)

The base goal is $1939, in homage to the movie. That’s to make paperbacks. I’d love to make hardcovers too, but that’ll be a stretch goal.

Below: full-cast cover art. The version that’s going on the book cover is “just Dorothy and Ozma,” because I need room for, y’know, the title. Here’s the Expanded Wedding Party version:

Going live in less than 48 hours! 😳

Pack up the car

None really. I’m not much of a traveler so no book or movie has inspired me to travel. In fact, the first movie I thought of this morning inspired me not to travel and that’s The Wizard of Oz. When Dorothy wakes up in her bed and tells us if she ever goes looking for her heart’s desire again she won’t look any further than her own back yard because if it’s not there, it was never lost to begin with, it made sense to me. Stay home, stay safe. Kind of a sheltered existence, but it works. About the best a book has ever done for me is inspire me to want to travel. Travels With Charley, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. On the Road. I suppose The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the Hobbit books might have to be somewhere on that list too. Maybe, in a way, metaphorically?, the Book of Exodus? If I think about it more I’m guessing more titles will come to mind so I’ll stop thinking about it now.
