Once a jury is seated, prosecutors & defense lawyers will give their opening statements. The trial is expected to last ~3 wks. 2 of the officers involved in the beating — Desmond Mills Jr. & Emmitt Martin III — have pleaded #guilty to using #ExcessiveForce & a #WitnessTampering #conspiracy. As part of the plea agreements, the #DOJ recommended Martin face a sentence not to exceed 40 yrs in prison & Mills to face no more than 15 yrs.

#Trump is really angry that #ProPublica is publishing an investigative report exposing his apparent #bribery of potential #witnesses who could be called to testify against him in his many #criminal cases. He's threatening to sue them if they don't "#CeaseAndDesist" publishing the article, blathering on about #defamation, but the last thing he wants is to have the details of his #witnessTampering authenticated and memorialized in court. And one of the campaign’s top ofcls had her daughter hired onto campaign staff, where she is now the 4th-highest-paid employee.

The even better news? Judge Merchan is putting on his ass-kicking boots:
Just before court broke for the day, Donald Trump paid a steep price for his social media posts about witnesses and others in the case.
Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche asked the judge to instruct the prosecutors to tell them who the first three planned government witnesses will be.
Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass said no. “Mr. Trump has been tweeting about the witnesses. We are not telling them who the witnesses are.”
It is a significant disadvantage for the defense team not to know which witnesses are coming, because it makes it much harder to prepare their cross-examination.
Crestfallen, Blanche offered to promise the court that Trump would not tweet about those pending witnesses.
“I don’t think you can make that representation,” New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan replied.
Blanche tried another tack, offering not to tell Trump who the witnesses would be.
Merchan again refused and said he wouldn’t force prosecutors to tell the defense the names.
“I’m not going to order them to do it, no, I will see you tomorrow morning,” Merchan said before leaving the bench.
Next time, lock him up in the cell down the hallway, please.

When Merchant was writing the motion to disqualify the prosecutors, she assured Bradley that “I protected you completely. I kept you out of it.”
Merchant also told Bradley that she was becoming president of the #Georgia Assn of #Criminal Defense Lawyers & wanted him to become more involved in the group, incl’g by becoming a prgm director for an upcoming seminar. -
