In tonight's #witcher #ttrpg game, our players are in the southern end of the Kestrel mountains in Kaedwen, hoping to bypass battlefields where Kaedweni troops are fighting Nilfgaard. It is winter, bitterly cold, and at the end of the day they ended up near a fisherman's hut by a river... when harpies attacked (random encounter).
One harpy smashed through the wall of the hut, the other blundered into our Witcher's Yrden trap and was picked off. Terrifying, but the players won the day :)

I really love reading. I used to read mostly #scifi and #fantasy, so you could often find me with my nose buried in #Discworld, #Tolkien, The #Witcher, or #HarryPotter back in school. These days, I also enjoy classic literature by "great authors".
And yes, I'm now an expert in children's books because I read to my son every night before bed #kidsbooks. Sadly, I don't have much time for other reading these days.

I've just started reading the first book in Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher series, 'The Last Wish'. I spent ages playing the video game, 'The Witcher III', & I also watched some of the Netflix TV show. I loved both - especially the game - so I guess it was inevitable I would eventually read the books too, M.E. & fibromyalgia brain-fog willing!
'The Last Wish' is just the first book in a compilation of all eight of Sapkowski's Witcher books, itself called 'The Complete Witcher'. I'm reading it on my Kindle Colorsoft, & I'm really enjoying it so far - I actually recognise some parts of the story as being from quests I did in-game!
Hopefully my brain-fog will clear for long enough, that I can get some serious reading done!

Our #witcher #ttrpg players fought a small unit of the Wild Hunt in this session, while traveling with some Kaedweni soldiers and allied scoia'tael archers (not natural allies, deals have been made). They had a small number of explosive arrows which were for a more strategic purpose, but decided to use them against the Wild Hunt Mage instead. This was probably for the best.
Spellcasting, witcher signs and explosives won the day. One Wild Hunt soldier escaped...

Our #witcher #ttrpg game has potentially taken a nasty turn. We have our three players (a witcher, mage and doctor), a band of four scoia'tael elf guerilla fighters, and a small group of four Kaedweni soldiers lead by their CO. They're on a sabotage mission, looking to blow up a bridge over the Pontar river, and have decided to go through the mountains to avoid ghoul-infested battlefields below (this is smart). They rolled on a d100 encounter table and got 95 out of 100. This is bad. (1/2)

Geralt of Rivia's first appearance in a video game was in 1998 (9 years before CD Projekt Red game). In the Metropolis Software point-and-click adventure Książę i Tchórz (aka Galador), players can meet a (very) old Geralt and obtain a witcher's elixir. Interestingly, the game was released a year before The Lady of the Lake, the final novel in The Witcher series. That means the game writers couldn't have known how Geralt's story would ultimately end.

I really don't get what's with the hype about the #ThreeBodyProblem . The writing is so bad it reads like something from the 70's, and at least Asimov's ideas were fresh, at the time. Is this the #Witcher effect, i.e. "we praise a mediocre book just because the author is Polish/Chinese"?

It has been revealed by a Nilfgaardian defector that the empire is amassing troops in the Lormark, and plans to march a convoy across the Pontar river in two days time, bringing desperately needed troops, armaments and supplies to the occupying army in Kaedwen. The only crossing point is a bridge on the road between Vengerberg and Ban Glean. Our party and their allies need to sneak through occupied territory and destroy that bridge, or all will be lost...
