One good thing may come out of this AI-driven RAM crunch. It might be the kick in the behind that gets developers to give up complacency about library and framework bloat (*cough* Electron), reverse Wirth's law, and start caring about their applications' memory footprint.
Richard Speed of The Register compared skyrocketing DRAM prices to the 1970s oil crisis. Automakers had to innovate by making their vehicles more fuel-efficient.

Hardware is always getting better.
Unfortunately, software is always getting worse.
and software gets worse faster than hardware gets better.Real, though. This is why we built Open Sorcery as lean and clean as we could.

I'm reading @philvenables 's Security and Ten Laws of Technology and finding out about Wirth's Law is making me really sad.
"software is getting slower more rapidly than hardware becomes faster"
The thing that makes me most sad is that this was coined in 1995 and it's still accurate.
Why? What is the fundamental incentive which makes this law true?
( Sorry for the shitty misspelled Dall-E image attached, sunk cost fallacy dictates that I must post it because I have spent too much time trying to get GPT to generate it... Pro tip, "cross-stitch" is apparently objectionable and GPT will refuse to create it :-D )
