I haven’t found Apple Weather’s forecasts helpful, and this article helped me understand why their precipitation forecasts in particular haven’t been reliable:

Massive #snowstorm to bury areas from #OklahomaCity to #NewYorkCity, #Boston
In what is likely to be the biggest winter storms in years for such a broad area of the U.S., heavy snow is forecast from the eastern slopes of the Rockies to the coastal Northeast. Travel shutdowns are anticipated.
By Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist
Published Jan 22, 2026
"Enough snow to shovel and plow is forecast to spread from New Mexico and Colorado on Friday to Massachusetts and Maine by Sunday, impacting over 200 million people. It could be the biggest snowstorm in years with a large area having the potential to receive 6 to 12 inches of snow, with accumulations reaching 24-30 inches in the hardest-hit areas.
" 'It is rare that storms combine this much snow, ice and bitter cold over such a large area — a widespread travel-halting winter storm will stall daily life for days in large portions of the central and eastern U.S.,' AccuWeather Senior Vice President Evan Myers said."

I'm tucked up in bed listening to the storm. It's wild out there, but other places, not far from here, have it far worse.

Nearly 20 years ago in Marquette, Michigan, I was exploring Presque Isle Park when a heavy snowstorm rolled in. As I headed home, I spotted the Lee A. Tregurtha at Marquette’s Ore Dock, standing strong against the storm—a true symbol of Great Lakes resilience. 📷 Now available as wall art, puzzles, and more.

I live in a snowy area of Canada where most people are experienced with driving on snow and ice, have all kinds of backups for power outages and have stocked up from their gardens and local farms. But, not going to lie, if we got a sudden 6 foot snow fall, we would be in trouble too. The biggest danger is thinking that you are fully prepared and experienced so you take risks. Don't take risks. Hope for the best but expect the worst.

People helping people because the government is not capable of doing all that needs to be done. The more prepared you are, the more you can assist others. #Buffalo #prepping #WinterStorms

If ever there was a time to stock your vehicle with prep items, this is it. The terrible storms in upstate NY all the way to the awful bus crash in the interior of BC- people everywhere need help. If you are not capable or unprepared to help yourself, you sure can't help anyone else. The first travellers that came upon the bus crash were sheltering people in their cars. Having extra blankets, hand warmers, food, water, first aid supplies and extra clothing in your car can save lives. Diabetics might need food, people in shock need warmth and reassurance (especially children), first aid is self explanatory. Having red flashers, reflective road triangles, or reflective tape that you can use in a pitch, all could prevent worsening conditions as more vehicles come up to the incident site. Doing what you can is doing a lot.
