Another arty day, this time in New Plymouth. As well as many little galleries, shops, and the coastal pathway, we thoroughly enjoyed the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery / Len Lye Centre.
The building itself is a fantastic piece of architecture; an intriguing design that seems, like the Tardis in Doctor Who, to be a lot bigger on the inside than the outside would have you believe. Athough a fair bit of the centre was closed (as new exhibitions were being built), I enjoyed Simon Ingram's beautiful 'Vibrating World: Rotokare Forest', a massive video /digital art representation of light and texture in a forest canopy. Yuko Mohri's intriguing piece 'Decomposition' uses dying organic matter (pieces of fruit) as a medium of expression. Described as a “living dead electronic installation”, electrodes capture the cellular decay of the fruit as electrical signals and turns it into an everchanging series of tones and sounds.
After a quick snack, we headed back inland and up into Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki to spend our penultimate night in a mountain lodge. Let the reading, eating and sleeping begin, for tomorrow, the Forgotten Highway beckons.

Had a lovely sunny drive to New Plymouth this afternoon. Having never seen Mt Taranaki on previous visits, we frequently glanced to see if we could see the mountain through the low cloud. About half an hour short of New Plymouth, the clouds parted briefly to provide us with a magnificent view. Minutes later, it was gone again. We read that the recent fine weather we have had for 6 days may not last but we are glad we have been able to enjoy it thus far.

Sitting in Inclusive Eating in Palmy eating a lovely cheese scone along with a flat white. I asked about the name of the place and was told that it's about offering options for those who have to avoid certain ingredients. Their approach is that, no matter what #allergy or #foodintolerance someone might have, they'll have something that they can eat and enjoy safely (and even sit down with a diner to understand how they can accommodate their needs.

Stopping in #Levin overnight. Loved previous meals at The Pizza Factory (while on contract here last year) so we headed there for dinner. We enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere (lots of smoke from the wood-fired ovens) and some great people-watching while scarfing two lovely pizzas.
