I'm heading out for an early appointment in Barrie and checking the weather to see if I'll have any challenges during my 25 minute travel time. I'll have to navigate through some snow - duh... it's Barrie - but poorly salted roads is also an issue. Ontario is facing a shortage of road salt due to an early onset of winter, higher than normal ice days early in the season and some supply chain issues with suppliers. Currently municipalities are trying to stretch their dwindling supply and mixing in more sand. That additional use of sand will result in higher cleaning costs in the spring but right now it's their only option.
