We are turning into Truck People

It’s been a busy couple of months since we arrived home from Big Cypress. We’ve had more medical visits than I wish to discuss, but all is good. We’ve attended family and friend gatherings. We’ve had friends over. We’ve taken a trip to Vermont. We got a new garbage disposal installed (woo hoo!) and a new Google Home Nest thermostat. We’ve trimmed the shrubs and some of our clutter. We’ve applied for the senior tax freeze and ordered all our OTC. Our camper has had its annual maintenance, and both our abodes have been cleaned. Looking forward, we’ve made our travel plans for the rest of the year.

Related to our coming travels, we bought a new-to-us tow vehicle. We got it licensed (only took two trips to the DMV!), and now we have . . .

installed a truck bed cover. Ourselves.

Yes, folks, Dan and I actually did this. Our nephew recommended the Tyger brand, we ordered it off Amazon. It came to the door in a large eight foot box.

We waited for a cooler day, brushed the leaves out of the truck bed, and went to work. One of us had to crawl into the bed and fasten the two sets of brackets. I’ll let you guess which one of us accomplished that gymnastic feat.

I’d like to mention that we didn’t have any help, and we only watched the YouTube video four times.

We’re quite happy with the outcome. We put the camper’s spare tire in the bed – out of sight. We can’t store the tire on the back of our travel trailer because that’s where our e-bikes go. We mention how nice it is to have all that storage and that we’re going to put our camping chairs in the truck bed. When we go somewhere, we talk about getting a pull through spot, not for our camper, but for our truck. We talk about all the extra steps we get because we have to park far away. And we talk about how easily that big truck pulls our beloved travel trailer. We stand back and admire the smooth, sleek look of our new truck bed cover.
