2012 Xinomavro Hedgehog Vineyard from Alpha Estate in Northern Greece.

Reasonably priced, in the $20s, it still has aged beautifully, because it is Xinomavro. 😊 In perfect shape, it's ripe with good acidity, a juicy finish and a hint of funk. It's a good price point in Alpha's red lineup, a friendly style with some distinction. No rush, but this is a great time to dive in.

Nice surprise. 2007 Avantis "Collection" Syrah (new vintages around $70) from Central Greece. This has pulled in tannins and wood, although it is a bit creamy, perhaps to a fault. There's a hint of game, but its maturity is a plus as it has pulled everything together while it acquired complexity. It shows some tertiary nuances, gentled but still with life. It tastes great. It can still hold, maybe better than anticipated, but it's probably a better idea to pop this soon. 14% #wine #winesofgreece

Argyros is a benchmark producer on Santorini for Vinsanto, an Assyrtiko-dominated blend. This has 220 grams of residual sugar, but it is nowhere near cloying. The winery makes longer aged and highly-prized versions like 12 and 20, but don't sleep on the gorgeous 4-year; it is no slacker. Dark in color, textured on the palate and lifted, it is delicious and well structured. This 2010 looks old, tastes vibrant. It will last a long time still.
