This *** Auslese was a bit lower in level than normal. I correctly suspected minor seepage. Still, top Riesling is amazingly resilient. Was I concerned? No, sir! (Ok, well, a little.) 🍇
But it was fine, better than fine. Maybe a little more mature, but still youthful. It drank great--ripe, rich and a hint of peach, delicious with a bit of tension. It's indestructible! 7.5%.

A tale of 2 Rieslings, both Spätlese, both super. The '99 Donnhoff ($23 on release) showed a touch of leakage, but once again, Riesling is indestructible. Youthful color. Fresh, crisp and tasty. The '01 Schaefer ($22 on release, although SRPs were higher!) may have a bit more concentration, but plenty of energy, especially as it warmed. Both 8.5%. Both have plenty of time left, esp. the '01. #wine #winesofgermany #riesling

The silky Foundi 2011 was so elegant, but also bright, powerful and pure, with a big finish. There was also a great 2013 Vinsanto from Santo Wines. For once, no Portuguese wines.
